If you are using BRF, you can boil in a large pot for 30 minutes. Here's a simple BRF TEK

Dude you have a lot of reading to do, no one will hand you a sack of mushrooms here, but they will point you tword the information....You can use a tight fiting pot with a washtowel on the bottom, search and you will find times of sterilization what to use how to use it ect...My friend grew mushrooms without posting anything, she just lurked and read for a few weeks, then sucess..........

No, is the short answer and thats what most ppl will tell u.
but i think i might be possil if the rye was precooked properly and then boiled in jars for aprox. 45 min to germenate endospores then the next day keeping the pot covered, boil for another 45 to kill germinated spores.
i have never done this but as long as jars do not dry out then i dont see why it should not work.

> Close the lid ontop of the pot. Low boil for 60 minutes (one hour).

on your logged post boxtop, whats the temp for your incubation chamber and does it matter if you boil your jars for an hour? it doesnt appear to dry anything out, i can still see moisture build up on the side of the jars.

Good eye! This batch was a bit on the moist side and as you can see they are not contaminated and are colonizing quite nicely. According to Shroomwizard, boiling longer than 30 minutes lowers the nutrient content, resulting in longer colonizing time. I don't know if that's true, but I see no need to boil beyond 30 mins. I incubate in temps between 84-87 and I never let them get hotter than 90. Peace.

PF SUBSTRATE FORMULATION
Step 4. Heat the pot of water to a boil. Put the jars into the pot with the lid bands loose so that the steam can penetrate the jars quickly. The jars can sit in water but make sure boiling water can't slosh into the jars. Turn the heat down and GENTLY steam the jars at the lowest possible boil for an hour in a TIGHTLY covered pot (gas stoves are the easiest to control). A good tight fitting pot lid is essential for successful steaming.
whats up with this bit of info from FANATICUS?

I've probably boiled 60 jars in the last couple of months, always for no longer than 30 minutes. I have had 3 jars come up with contam. That's a hell of a low contam rate. Good enough for me!

For my 2 cents...I will add that Boxtop's coment (made a minute ago) is truly valid. My pet fish boil brf jars for abour 1 1/2 hrs, which resulted in colonization time of nearly 2 months. Pretty shitty! Thanks for the knowledge.
