Nervous Tension Anxiety- need doctor advice

I told my family today I was thinking about going to the doctor for nervous tension.. It mainly happens in large crowds with people I don't know, or even small crowds with people I am uncomfortable with. I get drawn in and reclusive, uptight, and TENSE.... I hate it. I'm 20 and I've dealt with it on my own from this far, but I feel if it can help me, why not? I'm REALLY skeptical if I should even try to get a 'quick fix' to this problem, but If I can, and my family and friends support me... why not?
What do they prescribe for nervous/anxiety, etc?

It sounds as though you have generalised social anxiety, which isn't uncommon for people of your age.

My advice is to not, under any circumstances, take some form of benzodiazephine like Xanax and Valium. Anxiety is a highly treatable condition. Non-chemical solutions such as CBT or psychoanalysis are more effective, and, unlike the aforementioned medications, they will provide a permanent solution.

Deliberately and regularly put yourself in nerve-racking positions, ones which will provoke anxiety. After you face your biggest phobia repeatedly, you will begin to see how pointless the anxiety is and there will be nothing left to fear.

Do you really want to risk becoming dependant on a benzo over such a small, easily treatable condition? The fact is that these are devastatingly addictive drugs. Anyone who has endured benzo addiction will attest to this.

But anyway... if you do seek a medical solution they are likely to prescribe you a course of benzodiazephines (Valium, Xanax) or perhaps even some beta-blockers or anti-psychotic drugs. A waste of time IMO.

It's not really about a phobia or fear.
It's about picking up these waves, this anxiety this tension.
People rub off on me, and I RUB OFF ON THEM.
It's beginning to influence myself and OTHERS negatively, and that's when I see I need to ask for some help.

I don't want to become addicted, I know it can happen, easy.
Small doses, maybe, and once I overcome, then ween off?
Or if I ween off will it come back?

Or can the medicine help me overcome my problems, and then I can quit the meds and STILL be able to overcome it?

There's a chance it could help you overcome your problem. However, the biggest problem is that they will just mask the anxiety, rather than sorting out the root of the issue. I have heard people say that the Xanax/Valium regulates their thought processes when they're in what would otherwsie be anxious situations. However, it's a bit of a gamble not worth taking, imo. Do you find as though you over-analyse much in these situations?

One other theory about the type of anxiety you're experience centres around the process of breathing. People claim that it's the result of insufficient oxygen being drawn into the lungs (due to your mind and body being focused on what might happen) which in turn sets of the CNS and then you panic. Meditation and especially yoga have been shown to be very effective in the treatment of anxiety for this reason. They'll help you breathe easier, which may in turn allow you to relax in social situatuions.

This is a big part of it. But I don't start breathing improperly until the anxiety really starts to set in. Then even when I breathe deep and regular I am still tense. Thanks for the help man, I am going to the doctor next week we will see how it goes

I do coke 2-3 times a year. And I smoke a bowl, about once a day, in the evenings. Sometimes two or three bowls at nigght when I have the next day off

treat the problame from the source... weed can help you find the source (but it may also intensefy these feelings!) IMO the best bet is to start phsycho therapy or some sort of meditation practice (tai-chi/yoga which will halp you physically regulate your tention... all it takes really is being aware of the body and learning what makes it tick... weed can also help with that :tongue: )

on the subject of weed though...
we'd all like to think that weed is benevolent and nutral/natural but the fect is that it changes the way you think about the world and how you precive a given situation.
when someone who's not comfrtable with him self in some way (which MANY if not almost all young 19-25 people are) be it low self asteem, depression over loads of diffrent issues and what not... weed will make the problame jump out every time and the more you notice the porblame the more you're sucked into it...
if you want to keep smoking weed (that's fine IMO) do it ONLY where you feel totaly comfrtable... or do it as some kind of therapy and try to understand WHY you're getting tense and afraid to try and find a solution
if you suddnly find out that your friends rubb on you the wrong way then ask your self "who's fault is it?" "does it matter?" "should i let certine things get to me?" "can i change my friends/my self... SHOULD i cahnge anything?"
if you want help with all these issues be sure that your close friends will help but don't let it become who you are...
that's why it's better to seek impartial help like a psychietrist
you can do it on your own but its a tough journy and a lonely one!

and remember not to be hard on your self... alot of people deal with these issues... more then you can imagine!

That's so weird. We had a family friend years ago who was a chiropractor, but he was also a hippy of sorts, no doubt he liked psychedelics, but i was too young to wonder back then.

are chiropractors commonly in to "the good stuff" in life?

Picking up peoples static ay.... Im sensetive to peoples moods as well. We all are. The point though is in being able to aknowledge these people and their moods. But you also have to strengthen Your own Aura so to speak. We are like eggs of light we can come into contact with others eggs, sometimes we shaire energy, sometimes we feed on others energy, sometimes they feed on hours. Its like osmosis and finding equilibriums.

These egg like energy fields surrounding us have different levels. Like Alex Greys works of art he shows these fields of energy.

But threw work and meditation you can strengthen these fields of energy, by becoming aware of the eggs that every one posses and understanding how they interact. You can there by give your energy to the others or strengthen your own outer shell. Sometimes you dont want to give away your energy to any sucubus that comes threw. Sometimes you want to shaire it with someone that needs it. The idea is to source your own light and not be dependent on ataining it from others. After you become radiant by means of working on your self and are able to source your own happyness or calmness, you then have enough to shaire with others.

I found that if i go out to much i become dependent on outside means for making my happyness. I realised that i need time by myself and time doing self work. Just like the seasons and the moon rising and falling just like the tides. They come and go.

I cant go go go all the time with out running dry.
