I use a Hardware cloth "chicken fence". On a wooden frame raised up on some cinder blocks over a tarp. I just pile some H-poo on it and use a lawn rake and hoe to push it around...like a cheese grater. Cheap and easy.

As musher mentioned, get some 1/2" hardware cloth. Build a 2'x2' wooden frame, attach the hardware cloth and you will be able to screen lots of material in a short time.

you could prob rent a shredder/chipper thing at a hardware/home supply store.

the shredder is hands down the best way to break up the poo (thanks agar). what you would spend hours doing by hand through a ccreen would be done in minutes by a shredder. beg, borrow, but don't steal one, but by all means do get a shredder and save your hands and time.

Small electric -  for the little jobs - does great.
Bigger gas powered for the big jobs.
Wear eye protection, h/poo often has a few small rocks in it.

I own a tree company, my chipper though has self feed hydraulic wheels. Male sure if you rent one you get a gravity fed chipper or it wont work! I think that most of the smaller ones are gravity fed. Oh yea, what Agar said about rocks, they'll really screw up an expensive chipper quickly.

So, horse poo that you use to cultivate is more like a "woodchip" substance versus actual horse poo that you'd find on something like a wildernest trail? Is it better to buy it, or go find it?

Just put it in a big buckety and soak it with lots and lots of water, so that turds are floating and everything. Then let it soak. Pour the poo into burlap sacks or pillow cases. Then stomp on it. That will break up all the big chunks.

Take the cutting blades to a welding shop & have them "hard faced" like one does on bulldozer blades. Then, use a good grinder to sharpen the hard facing down to a cutting edge. :thumbup:

In reality, a chipper isn't really CUTTING the DRY h/poo up.

It is the CENTRIFICAL force & IMPACT that simply BUSTS it apart & spits it out as fibers.

After all, h/poo nuggets & muffins are simply hay/straw/grain fibers compacted into ball shaped chunks.

what is a gravity fed chipper ??? (my mother tongue is not english...)

It's the type of chipper where the feed chute is facing up, usually the smaller chippers are like this. It's called gravity fed, because the weight of the brush sorta self feeds itself through, as apposed to a larger chipper that you feed horizontally. Then you have self feeding disk chippers and drum chippers. Hope I explained that OK!
Also you don't really want to try to grind your chipper blades, it heats them up and makes them more brittle. I believe the shop where I take mine they use water to keep them cool.
