Seasons and Hunting in the N. Cal

Hello all, board noob here.

I am very interested in hunting for mushrooms in my area, (from bakersfield to as far north as Redding CA, but mainly the Sacramento area and its associated main highway routes)

I've done some research, but haven't come across seasonal times for shrooms in this area, I'm assuming that the end of the rainy season that we are currently having would be a good time to go hunting. But i'm concerned about the current lower temps. Frost has occured =(

I'm guessing that my best bet is to wait until late Feb/early March to try and hunt.

If anyone could help me out or direct me to a link that provides more specific info such as temp, season, and local varieties it would be greatly appreciated. I'm also looking for info on the OK area as I'm soon going to be moving there.

Doh!! Typical noob mistake, I just read the seasons off the listing. None really right now, but fall is the time for around here, unless anyone knows of species that grow in the early spring around here :)

I just remembered to back during the fall when I was on a job up near redding, CA it was back on a big mountain near a cell site. I distinctly remember seeing what seemed to be one of the strangest and largest looking mushrooms sticking out of one of the sides of the trail that I was traveling on (on some decaying logs/plant matter that was cleared for the trail) It was approx 7-8" tall with a large cap and a distinct blue hue w/creamy colored body. There were a couple smaller yet identical shrooms growing withing the same 3ft square area.

Of course I'll never know what it was exactly, but it's nice to wonder. :) I'm going to look over the pics to see if anything pops to my attention.

I am truly excited to start hunting next season, i love the outdoors and this is just one more activity to add to the list in my travels.
