Are You Structurally Capable?
    #5006029 -

The mind is often times not structurally capable enough to be able to direct and focus pure awareness properly. A muscle that is ridden with cancerous cells will not be able to fufill its intended purpose. The pursuit of Zen is really a process of restructuring the mind so that the mind itself is not obstructing one's awareness from being realized in the moment on a conscious, detailed level. Opening oneself to awareness in its purest form possible, by reprogramming the mind so that it only filters that awareness as much as is necessary to act in the moment, is most beneficial and rewarding.

Every single thought requires some degree of awareness to "power" it. The more thoughts that are unnecessarily coming into existance, the less focus there is for other functions - more important, necessary thoughts; one's awareness of the signals that one's senses are receiving; etc. If one is not capable of being in a position beyond the mind, in order to be able to think or not think, they will have limited capacities to function in the moment, and will not experience life in a more intense, vibrant, alive dimension. If the structure of a mind cannot effectively manage the pure awareness that we are blessed with, it is our unfortunate loss.

This concept outlined here can be utilized in any and every aspect of of one's life, from keeping a general, cosmically aware perspective and center that runs through all of our experiences to specific, isolated events where almost any thinking at all will hinder our ability to perform. Zen itself is really the resulting state of being that exists without the mind at all - as close to transcendent pure awareness as one can get without completely transcending.

nice, but it is a bit of a romantic interpretation of what is desireable from enlightenment.

the illusion of ego is simmilar to the illusion of thought.

thought is usually considered to be a streamed awareness or attention pulled by its nose (by desire?) through images from memory.

but really thought is that procession of images, replayed by association, powered by habit more than by awareness. (those sequences of images can be sounds, even words, even grammatical formulation sequences configured to reflect upon other ideas or images etc.)

each image is gestalt. like a mandalla, it is 360 degrees and all skandas feed in. some inputs are jammed to help focus or to enhance others, but that is also part of the totality. (very structurally capable)

so you get these parades of totalities chunking along and we buy into the reality of a "stream", the idea of thought as a flowing vapour of mental energy inside the self instead of the self marching along. But the self is the parading trace of a totality of experiences through time - this moment and the echoes of previous ones; you know, that whole smear of mentation that is familiar, wacky and looking for love, or answers?

it is always purely that - altogether. but it is not separated or separable from that or purely just one part of that.

to build mindfulness you start to add interest in what is happenning and practice meditation regularly till it naturally becomes part of every mandalla or part of every living gestalt.

as for the less romantically phrased question:
"can one edit the contents of recurrent mandallas or gestalts?
can one reconfigure and make a parade that one is happier to be part of?"
the answer is
"of course the associative mental organ is great at learning new combinations,
just introduce and practice what you want to be, then it becomes second nature. when the music starts the marching takes over"

Zen must have a base with wisdom.
