my cat stinks

My cat stinks.  his entire back half smells foul.  Especially his hole. 
have any of you experienced this, and what can we do?

I was thinking of spraying tuna flavored water on his ass to get him to clean.  that or Febreeze  J/k.

I cant help but smell it! it smells that bad... oh and sometimes I wake up with his hole about 2 inches from my face lol.

Every cat ive had has kept itself very clean. What are you doing wrong? Have you been getting your cat stoned so it's too lazy to take care of its normal hygiene habits?
