I did it, my first time felt weird!!!

Well, my first time just now. Did a casing and have set up my terrarium. The casing felt real weird, taking cakes that are so fragile and easlily contaminated and breaking them apart w. my bare hands!! Also, on my terrarium I am gonna do cakes to just in case the casing fails. Is it better to put the water in first or the perlite? I put perlite in first and I can't see any water level and it just kinda gummed up where I poured the water. I am following MMGG to a tee but sometimes it is rather vague. Anyone have any tips on this?? Thanks!!

Just keep it wet, perlite is foolproof.

dude,
don't want to seem like the pesemistic one but, if your hands were not extremely clean there could be trouble, every time my gorilla freind has touched his substrate or casing with (alcohol sterilized) bare hands shortly there after the nasty green one shows up ! Dont touch em with bare hands !!
maybe it will be different for you, but if you ask most experienced cultivators most don't ever touch with bare hands, just my 2 cents

Hey man, touching a fully colonized cake with your bare hands is fine. The main concern for contams gettiong ahold of your casing is from not sterilzing your verm. I have touched many cakes before and they have been fine. Just use normal common sense.

yea my friend touches them quite often too. but he crumbles the cakes in a sterlie storage bag just becuse why risk it.

I use latex gloves all the time, even when I crumble my cakes.
