Outdoor Growth -- Plug Spawn? * 1

Has anyone here heard of this?  Apparently wooden dowels can be inocculated with mycelium and jammed into tree stumps or fallen logs in the spring and by the next spring you've got an entire chunk of wood colonized and fruiting.  Yowza!  :laugh:  I would really like to try this.  Y'know, reintroduce my strains into the wild.  Specially since I'm moving out to the wet and warm west coast in a month, where the old growth forests are.  Well, some of them anyways.  Goddamn logging companies.

Anyone?  Anyone?  Beuler?

So, it looks as if I will have to purchase some of plug spawn offered by these companies and then replicate the tech for my own strain? Damn, I was hoping there would be more info HERE, in the shroomery brain trust. Oh well.

One of the sites mentions that plug spawn are in fact "sterilized birch dowels with a spiral groove" cut into the sides. Great... now I have to go back to grade 9 wood shop!

you can find wood dowels on ebay and elsewhere. put into spawnbag/jar, sterilize, inoculate with wood lover culture, let colonize. drill/knock hole into suitable tree, insert dowel and wait.
