Silly mycobag corn spawn bag question
    #2054070 - 10/29/03 05:45 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

I received a mycobag from mycobag.com which i won in the contest. I took some spores from edible cultures in my biology class and inclulated the bag in so-so sterile conditions, whiping the self-healing disk with alcohol, flame sterilizing the needle, using lots of lysol around the work areas etc.

After inculation the bag was placed in it's original box, with top hanging out for gas exchanges.

Now the question:

On the site it says, that the filter patch will do it's best to keep the contrams away, so does it mean that the bag does not need to sit in very sterile enviromen? will the filter patch do the job?

Also mycobag.com site did not say anything about covering the self healing injection place, but i saw some posts that said they covered their bags with tape. Should i? Or the self healing spot is really full proof?

Thanx

Yes the filter should keep contams away... but you can be careful if you want.

Early bags didn't have the self healing place... you injected the bag itself. You had to tape over the hole.

I had one by my rotten ass garbage can for almost a month, without a contamination. I trust the filter patch, and the self healing innoculation site. But the bag did dry out and hasn't shown any signs of growth. The others which were put in a box in my closet are doing fine too, with decent growth. They are the wood based, not the corn, but that shouldn't make any difference as far as contams are concerned.

good luck, never mind you already have it

The self healing patch is called self healing because it closes up the hole made by the syringe. The filter will keep contams out.

Mycobags are cool. You can keep 'em in plain view if you like.

With only minimal contamination risk.

If your bag stalls or dries, inject some sterile water... if you don't contaminate the bag, you will see fast results.

10-20cc for dry bags... more for very dry bags... until the verm sticks to the sides again.

Add 10/1 3% h202 if you want to further protect from contams when you add water.

cervantes- The bag I mentioned above, that dryed out, how long do you think it would stay viable? I am thinking about letting it sit around for a rainy day. Its P. azurescens in a wood based bag. I think I want to wait and restart it closer to spring so I can try a little outdoor grow.

No clue, reinject as soon as possible... and your odds increase... but yeah, would help if it wasn't wood. Then you could grow it indoors.
