Virgin Post! Wa-hoo! A band that I thoroughly enjoy while bemushroomed, but no one ever seems to mention, is Mahavishnu Orchestra. John McGlaughlin is a monster and really can portray emotions through the compositions. And, of couse, Pink Floyd!

At The Drive In ...i'm sure I'd have a lot of fun with their songs, haven't tried tho... PROCUL HARUM their shit is just amazing, definitely check them out, sober or tripping, a great sound. they were a great band that never became all that famous, and so nobody knows of them, but their shit is epic. check out "A Salty Dog," or "Mabel," etc. all of their music is quite different so don't judge them by one song, they have many hits and some misses as well.

whenever i read posts like this im always surprised that no one ever mentions boards of canada. their stuff is dreamy and nostalgic and soft. "pete standing alone" almost made me cry once, and i was sober at the time.

I just finished making a very long and eloquently devised post that was sure to go down in history as the most mind numbing 100 words in the history of man kind, and my fucking computer crashed- robbing me of certain fame and fortune... :) Anyway, I listened to some hooverphonic (as per the reccomendation of someone here- i just cant remember who it was- fuck...) . Anyway, they rock the shit. Try em... I also listen to David Gray. Its folk type music that gets pretty mellow and.... well, folkish sometimes. Try it! I picked up a "String Quartet Tribute to U2" a while back, and i love it. I mean, if youre into that whole classical type scene and you like U2 than youre gonna jizz. Its kindof like Appocalyptica was to Metallica... I also listen to some Kodo, or Taiko drumming. that shit is MEAN. Primal beats that just make you want to get up and have a big fight with something that wont hit back.... its good! jeezuz.. I listen to so many types of music it blows my mind sometimes. But thats why io come here so often, i need to check up on anything i might be missing and you guys always help out... props!

well with keeping in mind the usually bands (floyd, tool, ect) i really enjoyed Smashing Pumkins Mellon Collie and the Infanite Saddness. Great record to trip too. i suggest you try it. but then again i guess you could listen to ANY type of music and it would sound good trippin. for christ sakes i once listened to "Big band" music (you know the shitty music in the 50s and shit) and that even sounded good.

I have heard a lot of grief about hip hop while shrooming but I have had lots of fun with it. Sample heavy stuff is fun (such as A Tribe Called Quest's-people's instictive travels), Outkast's ATaliens is cool. Erykah' badu's mama's gun is a blast, her billie holliday-esque voice combined with her layered harmonies and phat grooves will take you all over the place. I also suggest bebel gilberto...

Paul Simon's Graceland and Rythm of the Saints are both really good, along with some solo Mickey Hart (drummer for the Dead). Anything with a good African beat gets me going. Plus the usual jam stuff; Dead, Phish, String Cheese Incident, Widespread Panic, moe., etc.

lots of different music is good for tripping. some that aren't commonly mentioned... mogwai - they play mostly instrumental music, vocals are always pretty low if at all and is pretty and relaxing beastie boys- paul's boutique has so many samples in it, it's great fight club soundtrack - dust brothers are just awesome dj shadow - instrumental hip hop, really good uh... that's all i can think of now, but there are lots of different bands. one album that i think is usually overlooked is atom heart mother by pink floyd. it's incredible. alright, that's all.

Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie (of course! This album is a trip in itself) Joe Satriani - Crystal Planet (especially "Raspberry Jam Delta-v") Massive Attack - Mezzanine (dark, scary rhythms) Portishead - Dummy (bizzare, fey, mysterious and eerie - it's perfect!) Goldfrapp - Felt Moutain (a sort of Weimar Germany version of Portishead, with more black-&-white-smoky-coffeeshop type music) Tori Amos - To Venus & Back (especially "Datura" which is a garden-of-Eden style list of hallucinogenic plants)
