Best tripping album.

What's everyone's opinion on the best album for tripping / listening to stoned? I'd have to vote for Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here.
-------------------- Did they get you to trade, your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange, a walk on part in the war, for a lead role in the cage?

Either Shpongle, by leaps and bounds, unfortunately - there's nothing like it

i'd have to throw my #1 spot to the Pulse album (particularly Disk 2) by Pink Floyd
although i like so much music that it's hard for me to pick a "best" album.

i havent heard "are you shpongled" by shpongle, but "tales of the inexpressible" is my favorite tripping cd :-) i also love listening to punk (real punk, not pop mtv crap, lol), so Against All authority's "All Fall Down" is really nice :-)

I'd have to say it's a tie between darkside of the moon/and pulse(the second cd more so of course )
And i'm sure 'are you shpongled' would be number...but I have yet to listen to it while tripping. and won't get to for some time

Not an album, but I like to listen to Bjork stoned, not tripping though.

I have an mp3 playlist of about 10,000 songs which i put on random. Every trip is different if i'm around the house...
But an album will often set a mood. They sometimes follow story type paths.

I cannot choose one... here are some of my favorites to trip to:
Oasis: What's the Story Beatles: Magical Mystery Tour Radiohead: OK Computer Live: Throwing Copper
And, if you really want to fuck with your head, and feel your brain turn to Silly Putty and be crucified, listen to Primus: Antipop.

I'd also have to say PortisHead is good for stonedness, or tripping.

There is no one album any more for me. With 10,000+ songs on my hard drive I find it much more satisfying to create my own 3-4 hour blocks of music to suit my mood. But if I have to I will say Paul's Boutique!

I don't really have enough tripping experience to pick tripping favorites. But here are all of the albums I've listened to while tripping beginning with the most enjoyable.
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works: Volume 1 Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children A Clockwork Orange Soundtrack Funkst?rung - Appetite For Destruction Tricky - Nearly God Cocteau Twins - Blue Bell Knoll Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
I recommend listening to any of these, they're good tripping albums.

Right on man!
I listened to the Piper At The Gates Of Dawn on one of my last trips. When 'Lucifer Sam' was playing, I could literally feel the notes 'bounce' against one another, like they were elastic or something. (if that makes any sense at all)
Anyway, for me Piper At The Gates Of Dawn is BY FAR the best Pink Floyd album. Syd Barrett is the man!!!!

Yeah, 'Wish you were here' is my favorite Floyd, too. But watch the video "Live at Pompeii" (live 'Echoes'), that kicks ass while your peaking. 'The Song Remains the Same' (led Zep) is another good one to trip to.

I'd have to say my favorites are Soul Coughing's El Oso and The Fellowship of the Ring Soundtrack.
El Oso seems to be composed for the tripper/roller in mind. If you haven't heard it i suggest you pick it up. The Fellowship Soundtrack, when tripping, seems like an adventure. Expecially if you are familar with the movie.
BTW. Merry Christams y'all.

Good albums to trip to change with time... and depends on particularly you're tripping WITH, eh? I'd go for BIRDS OF FIRE by Mahavishnu Orchestra for an energetic listen, or THE COLLECTION by Tangerine Dream for a more mellow time.
The ABSOLUTE WORST music to listen to, I've found, is POLKA music -- I got roped into going to this new German restaurant once while deeeeep into some mushrooms, and the oomph-pah-pah they were playing, at concet levels, no less, about drove me CRRAAAZY!!

sheesh..... I think any music thats playing while you're dragged into a busy restaraunt on mushrooms will haunt you forever
I remember my friends took me to this pizza place once while I was on mushrooms and they were playing some 80's weird rock crap that I've been afraid of ever sense

I just listened to Tales of the Inexpressible last night on a very low dose, and let me tell you it is way more moody and twisted (to MY brain, anyway..)than Forest for the Trees:
It says in the CD "insert": "The Psychedelic Circuis is in Town"

alright TM it's in the mail...
yeah Strumpling i agree "Tales" is phenomenal anytime, but Forest For The Trees only works high dosed on headphones. the producer used binaural tricks that can only be heard in cans.
Shpongle is amazing music for sure, but it seems a synthetic kind of organic at times. most electronic music that tries to be "tribal" or "ethnic" is pretty weak. i believe Forest For The Trees managed to pull it off... at times anyway.
but even that stuff is old news, where's the next level trip music?
this album sounds like what i thought music in 2003 would...
AMON TOBIN Out From Out Where no seriously, this is some mind blowing music.
Amon's CD "Permutations" is also Way off the hook ...

I have many Cds here, so I'd like to make a little list of my best trip music, if you don't mind....
As everyone, Pink Floyd (with Piper)
Syd Barret - Wouldn't you miss me?
Jimi Hendrix : Woodstock
The Who - Tommy and Quadrofenia
Cream - Disraeli Gears (great, even with weed you can have a lysergic trip!)
Led Zeppelin - III
that's my rock'n'roll trip...I also enjoy Bj?rk ans some of my brasilian music, like Gilberto Gil, Cazuza and classic MPB.....

I cant choose what my favorite is, but the two CD's that I've listened to most while stoned are 'Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here' and 'Radiohead - OK Computer'.
I've got a slew of CD's that I cycle through or play according to the mood I want.

Shpongle is all the musical substance you can hope for, tool is far less technical, unless you like the lyrics that much, and contemplate them during the trip. AMerican beauty is my all time favorite(grateful dead). and It aint even that trippy to begine with. Also, live phish albums whilst tripping is the best, unless you like jazz. (Ravi shankar....sounds of india etc)not that most of this type of music wraps around your "hallucinations" best If you like jazz just pick up virtually any album, its good for "it"

Converting Vegetarians (the song and the album) by Infected Mushroom will always be the anthem of mind alteration for me. Cities of the Future, off of Im the Supervisor was pretty damn good too, but then everyone who likes techno seems to think that.

I like Jimi Hendrix: Axis Bold as Love My last trip I really wanted to listen to Live Phish 11, from the McNichols Arena in Denver 97', but I came down too soon. Although I managed 10 minutes through Tweezer before I really started to sober up and it was awesome. I imagine that album would be GODLY, but I was a little scared to put it in because the jams are so intense.

I like Devin Townsend albums. His music is very happy, very euphoric. I get the most out of my trips if i listen to his stuff. That abd Porcupine Tree. PT is very Pink Floyd esque, but with a little more happier vibes and is a little more upbeat. give them a try, i am sure you gys will ewnjoy In Absentia by Porcupine Tree.

The tenticles????? they are cool but you couldnt expect any one to have heard about them. If you like them, try mahavishnu orchestra, allan holdsworth, or tribal tech. Widespread panic live is also along the same lines as O tenticles.

Really though, O tenticles are show offs, and are like a big fat and complex brain fart. Zero consistancy and to much bad syncopation, I still listen to them though. They are like flamming fire-balls,.........Like widespread
