Can Mycelium die of coldness ?

I am asking because I foolishly let some culture jars out of their warm incubation unit and left them in a cold place at around 5-8 degrees celcius overnight and since then even though I have put them back into the chamber they seem to have just stopped spreading . Are they just shocked d'you think or are they toast ? TIA :)

It only dies at freezing point i think. Wait a couple of days and see. Peace, MAIA

Get your temps up and the mycellium should revive. In nature, muchroom mycellium is subjected to freezing every winter but always comes alive in the spring when warmer weather returns. cubensis mycellium may be a little different because it comes from warmer countries but the spores have proven to still be viable after freezing temps, I bet the mycellium does too.

Thanks Anno ! That was a little bit of a cryptic reply though, do you mean to say that you have seen mycelium live through those conditions ? OATIA :)

well today decided to try cold shocking a jar to see if it wourks better, couldn't remeber if should use fridge or freezer so went with freezer, just checked, and well, it had frozen solid with a nice lamp of ice on the bottom (had added some water to jar before putting in fridge, don't know why know as pretty stoned at the time. Ohwell, will see if it will live. :)

well - I came up with a theory that prehaps the mycelium was running out of air(oxygen) when it suddenly got cold so it kind of ran out of momentum and couldnt start again because of the lack of oxygen so I experimented and took the protective sticky tape off from the injection holes on one jar and lef itt for two days in the same place as the other jars and ,,,, - it worked the mycelium has begun to grow again in that jar but the others remained unchanged - so I have now removed the other peices of tape and hopefully the same will happen with them .

man, I have this vegie cooler where I stuck dunked jars to cold shock them... The water in the jars froze around the cake. I chipped it off and put' em in a terrarium. My last cake too. It is providing me my final trip right now. My doors of preception have been blown away with hurricane force winds.
