I agree with the idea that you shouldn't allow others to manipulate your emotional responses, though I think it is more a matter of controlling your outward reaction to the act of manipulation rather than trying to quell your emotions. 

Logic and self-determination are great, but if you walk around in a state of emotional neutrality how do you know when to laugh at the Cosmic Joke? :laugh:

Plus, I think, If you are going to make the distinction between sheep and shepherd you need to also take into account the dogs and wolfs and the difference between leading and dominating.

I think there is a difference between being self-centered and being selfishly-altruistic.

Anyway, please consider.

The point, for me anyway, is not to quell my emotions, but to be the shepherd who guides them. This is not creating a state of emotional neutrality, but rather a state of harmony between mind & heart.

Has NOTHING to do with quelling emotions. When you recognize the game being played and you know your center to be impervious to psychic onslaughts, why would any emotion arise?

Humor and laughter becomes eaier and more spontaneous as you are not nervously looking to around to see who else is laughing or wonder if it is appropriate.

One does not become yet another form of automaton.

Could the shepards need the sheep just as mush as the sheep need them? Some people (or parts of ourselves) need to be saved and others feel the need to do the saving.

Well, I was referring to my philosophy of self shepherding. I do not wish to save anyone else, nor do I believe it is possible.

I do believe in supporting those who are working to save themselves/wake themselves up/grow and learn from their experiences. I would never refer to that as shepherding them or saving them, however.

I also do not believe that anyone is all sheep. In the context of this thread, "sheep" refers to the tendency to give our power away to others whom we see as more powerful.
