The lord is my shepherd

The English version of the Bible as most people generally know it, is 400 years old today....but how many times has it been retranslated and rewritten and how much has it changed? They are now in the process of rewritting Pslam 23 which is: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want He maketh me to lie down in green pastures He leadeth me beside the still waters He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the path of righteousness for his names sake. Yes, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: For thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me Thou preparest a table before me in the pressence of mine enemies; Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the lord forever.
Generally its being dumbed down and I think alot is being lost in this, and I'm not even religious. (I have a copy of the new psalm for anyone that want it) My main concern is that they are 1. changing a well known verse, just because they want too, so how many other things have been changed to suit the ideas of the church at the time? and 2. Culturally and I mean in terms of media culture and I suppose it does happen in real life, this psalm is said before death, in many many movies you hear the characters and the priests uttering "as I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I fear no evil" in the new version this line is erased entirely. Even in real life when you go to a funeral psalm 23 is read and its a real finalization for alot of people (this is probably an unconscious connection to the media) but it is still a part of practicing and non-practicing peoples lives.

You'll have that.
Interestingly, it seems the more versions of the Bible there are the less people read it.

"(this is probably an unconscious connection to the media)"
I might argue that the media was/is influenced by the events in society, not the other way around.
Although, neither may be a valid argument... which is to say that the viewers choose which shows make it and which shows do not, but you can also see the media having a large impact on fashions, what we purchase, what we value (think MTV, Cosmo, et al) and you can argue that media affects society.
So I would have to say that the Media is affected largely by society and it's demands, but the Media can spread certain priveledged people's opinions and agendas.
Perhaps this mutually inclusive relationship is indicative of the interconnectedness of everything. Or perhaps not.

And to reply on topic,
It seems that I read once in the Bible a warning about changing the Word of God. Let me loook..
Revelations 22:18-19
18: "For I testify unto every man that heareth the word of the prophecy of this book. If any man shall add unto these things, GOd shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19. "And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part outo fthe book of life, and out of the holy city......"
Well now that I read this I think it is talking about just Revelations specifically. damnit
I think the process of systematically dumbing the Bible down makes me extremely curious of what it used to really say 2000+ years ago.
