You think it's ridiculous?

What's your opinion on the existence of The Pub, then? Do you feel OTD on its own was sufficient as the only off-topic forum?

Speaking of ridiculous, I feel it's ridiculous that supposedly intelligent people can't seem to grasp that the rules of conduct differ from forum to forum. Those who enjoy going head to head in vigorous arguments over the eternal philosophical questions life presents us are free to do so -- in the Philosophy forum. No one is being deprived here, which is the professed reason for the "outrage" of so many people posting in this thread. If you want to post a withering critique of Zen Buddhism or Islam or Carlos Castaneda's works, go right ahead -- in the Philosophy forum.

Still not a single rational explanation from any staff member why I was warned for posting an on-topic spiritual quote in the S&M forum.

This has nothing to do with the two sets of rules, does it?

Phred, you are one of the few I mods in these two forums that I actually respect. Break the mod code of silence and DIRECTLY address that one issue, if you may.

*coughs* Bullshit! It was predertermined that I would be barred from discussion.

which is the professed reason for the "outrage"
Come on Phred, you are mature and intelligent. The outrage was because I was warned and my thread(s) were (re)moved for no reason. Got that? ZERO cause. Nada. Zilch.

I agree Phred. After all the discussion of the guidelines of the creation of the new forum it is pretty amazing that people can not avoid the temptation to not challenge other's beliefs or "wacky ideas" in SM&P.

To me it's a shame because while debate can be great there are times when I would rather just get into a "think tank" mode of free flowing idea or belief exchange without challenge.

On the other side, the rigid enforcement by the mods as to what subject matter in SM&P constitutes "spiritual" hasn't helped in that free flow. If someone is entitled to their beliefs, then the subject matter could be pretty open. Cats can be pretty spiritual to many people.

Moving and deleting threads to excess is restrictive not expansive. The worst part is if a thread is up for a day or two and then the mods move it. Kind of disrupts the flow. Why not just let it die a natural death if it's not an obvious move or delete right away type thread?

I don't moderate the SM&P forum. I moderate the Philosophy forum. I don't know what you posted in the SM&P forum that was worthy of a warning. Frankly, I don't care.

Clearly it was a topic of interest to you or you wouldn't have posted it -- in any forum. My suggestion is to repost it in the Philosophy forum and see if it's of sufficient interest to other frequenters of the forum to receive replies. Maybe we can get a thoughtful discussion started about it -- whatever it may be. Just be prepared to have your position challenged.

Oh, please. Give me a break.

Your beef isn't that you are being deprived of the right to discuss philosophical or spiritual topics, your beef is that you can't discuss them in any manner you choose in any forum you choose. Too bad that's not acceptable to the people who own this bulletin board.

I've already invited you to discuss the problematic topic in the Philosophy forum. It's up to you to accept or decline the invitation.

what's funny is that swami and co was pushing for this "kumbaya" forum, one was finally made. now you have the philosphy forum where you can discus, debate, and challange ideas. then you have this "kumbaya" forum where people can think and share their ideas withjout having them be refuted by skepits or having them out right bashed.

so you would think this would work out just fine, people who want debate can go to philosphy, people who want "kumbayaness" can go to s, m, and p. what happens though? swami and co come down to s, m, and p and start the same old stuff all over again. why swami? what's even funnier is that they complain about mods being to strict when they get in troubble for doing what they do, swami you're way smarter than that, I know you are. you know what you're doing, you know exactly what you're doing. stop playing this game.

the cat thread? yes I did, I came across it on mjf's puppet trail. that's an issue among the s and m mods, that's a small issue, I'm looking at the big picture here. swami and co's attempts to derail the s and m forum.

Hello? McFly? Someone is hard of hearing.

BEEF: Being warned for posting a totally ON-TOPIC quote from a well-accepted spiritual author.

Which part don't you get?

Do you think that any random person should not be allowed to discuss great spiritual literature at the whim of a mod while following the rules to the letter?

YES or NO?

Don't play disinterested, you jumped in here, now please finish the REAL discussion.

Thank you.

No, I'm talking about the Vernon Howard that that was moved and which Swami got a warning for. The mods in S&P don't understand that spirituality doesn't have to be religious or mystical in nature. Mny people are secular, but consider themselves spiritual.

swami and co come down to s, m, and p and start the same old stuff all over again

Put your emotionalism and personal opinions of me aside for a few seconds if possible. Any spiritually mature person could do that.

Tell me what skeptic "stuff" was being done in discussing a quote from Vernon Howard. Try to actually answer the question.

Thank you.

I repeat, SM&P is not a forum I moderate. I don't care because it has nothing to do with me or the forums I moderate. There are many forums here at The Shroomery in which I never set foot because they are of no interest to me. SM&P is one of them. I'm kept busy enough with the forums I moderate. I leave the moderation of other forums to other moderators.

I will say yet again that you are free at any time to post in the Philosophy forum the topic you wished to discuss. If the topic is of no longer of sufficient interest to you for you to make that effort, that's okay with me.

Trying to convince the readers of this thread you are forbidden to discuss that topic is fruitless. You are perfectly free to discuss it -- in the appropriate forum. Up to you.

My understanding of the two forums is not that they contain different topics, but that the responses to the topics are restricted in SM&P and unrestricted in Philosophy.

How can a spiritual quote be inappropriate in the Spirituality forum? If someone responded to his quote by disagreeing, that would be inappropriate for the Spirituality forum.

Phred, I understand SM&P is not your forum, so could a SM&P mod address this, please?  Thank you.

Post it in the Philosophy forum if you are still interested in discussing the quote.

What is your goal here, Swami? To discuss the quote? If so, post it in the Philosophy forum and wait for responses. Goal achieved. I can't help but note that if it had been posted in the Philosophy forum your goal would already have been achieved. Some people more suspicious than myself might speculate your goal was not to have the quote discussed, but I won't make such a speculation. From the amount of energy you have expended on this point so far it is apparent that generating discussion on the quote is a goal you sincerely wish to achieve. Very well -- post the quote in the Philosophy forum and we'll see how much discussion it generates.

Your point in jumping into this discussion was to show your apathy for this discussion?

So anyone can be warned at any time for no reason, yet you cannot understand the outrage. You can grok the intricacies of world politics, but appear unable to grasp the dynamics of this situation.

Thanks for playing.

No, my point was to remind folks that a forum exists in which one may discuss matters religious, spiritual, mystical, and philosophical (to be redundant) as long as one is willing to have those matters subject to challenge. That forum is the Philosophy forum.

If your goal is to discuss a quote from this Vernon person, may I suggest you post the quote in the Philosophy forum and wait to see if anyone else wants to discuss the quote?
