My little buddy got killed

I often go to a local nature reserve to pick shrooms, feed waterfowl and just generally unwind.

Anyway, there's a small field there where there's some Hebridean Soay sheep whom I've befriended.

There was a little lamb called Sophie who was hand reared due to rejection by her mother who I was particularly fond of and fed her tit-bits whenever I could.

I just found out that the rangers found Sophie and another lamb slaughtered, gutted and skinned. All that remained of them was their intestines and skins.

She was so trustworthy of people due to being hand reared and by me feeding her. This was her downfall  :sad:

This is one fucked up society we live in  :mad2:

that is a deeply saddening story.

Her downfall was that of many species.

That has to be one of the saddest stories I've heard.  Sorry man  :sad:

She wasn't like  :sheeplove: was she?  aw j/k.  You know, I fell in love with a sheep when I went to a dairy farm last week.  It let me sit next to it and pet its wool and whisper sheepy sweet-nothings in its ear.

You should find and gut the bastards that took the life of poor Sophie.

Thanks guys.

I'm meeting up with the ranger who hand reared her tomorrow to go mushroom picking. If I find out who did it I swear they'll never be physically capable of doing it again  :evil:

Nope,
perhaps the life part was hypocritical, I believe I probably should have emphasized the nature reserve part.

I think my point about life is that it was a senseless killing if it was just 2 sheep, and I find it pretty doubtfull that they would be using the meat.

Either way I understand what you are saying

Speaking of vegetarianism, it is interesting that you developed an emotional connection to this particular sheep, but do not seem to have generalised that sentiment to the billions of other sheep and various other non-human animals who are, deliberately or otherwise, slaughtered every year, whether for direct consumption, their by-products, incidentally through habitat clearance or other types of human agency.

I should make my particular prejudices known (if they aren't sufficiently obvious already!) - I'm a vegan and have been for eight years. At any rate, I do not mean to be judgemental of anyone who does not share my culinary predilections; I sound that way, and I am sorry, because I do not mean to preach.

I merely think it interesting that we can anthropomorise particular animals through direct contact (take pets, for example), yet objectify the death and suffering (on a massive scale) of other, similarly sentient animals. In many cases, animals not so dissimilar to ourselves. Yet we do develop affinities with particular kinds of animals in particular situations, so I do not think this to be in any way abnormal or unreasonable.

So, to the point. I'm curious - why do you think the death of this particular lamb meant so much to you?

(I realise I'm resurrecting a dead thread here, but this resonated with me. I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on this).

someone realized that lambchops taste good, its the way of life.
i admit, the story is sad man, and i do send my sympathies, but i dont really think karma needs to be thrown in the stew
