Wild Oyster Clone - Successfull Fruiting! (Pics)
    #4811247 -

Well I fruited my first wild clone, a great white oyster strain I found growing in small clusters on a maple. So far the strain has outweighed all expectations and is really rocking out! I used a large 50lb onion bag, filled with straw, and pasteurized in my bathtub in a 58quart sterilight bin. After pasteurization I of course strained well, and cooled. I proceeded to take all the straw out of the bag and put it in the same bin I had used to pasteurize. There I mixed in the spawn, in this case I way over inoculated and used 4 1/2gal jars.. After spawn was mixed I put everything back in the onion bag and put that back in the bin for incubation. Once fully incubated it started producing pins on its own in the bin so I took it out and started to mist it, in the open air in my house. I actually was moving right when it was fruiting so I had to move the entire bag from house to house, in a mass of craziness... The onion bag worked well because mushrooms did not for where the yellow plastic was and I was able to hold it from that point to move it around. In the future though if I use bags like this I will make sure they have opening all around the bag for full fruiting possibilities. I have to also try this strain on bags with just holes poked in them, to see how that works.. The bag has flushed once and all the pics are of that flush, it is currently sitting in the rain right now getting soaked for second flush. Here are some pics for your enjoyingment...

Another shot

Heres a shot of the whole bag

And this is the myc on agar.

Ill upload some more pics later, as Ive reached my limit for the day.

Thanks!

I think the abundance of spawn was what made such an impressive flush.

Good Work!

Onion bag seems like a great idea. I have an old mesh laundry bag about that size that I bet would work

matt, this is REALLY neat, big probs - 5 for that, that is for sure.

so you said, you fruited the mushrooms without providing a seperate fruiting chamber,
you wrote you misted it - that's it ?

so you basically spawned it, let it colonize and then just like sprayed the water
directly onto it ?

my previous oyster attempts failed because lack of fresh air exchange,
but reading that you fruited yours just in the open air, i may actually
try again fruiting them as i would really love some hg oysters

drop me some info on that!
peace ohm :mushroom2:

yes ohmatic, no fruiting chamber, though pinning began in the 58quart plastic bin, as such the humidity was very high.. it has just soaked out in the rain for a few days and im bringing it back inside and will mist again with no fruiting chamber (as i have none at this new house) and ill let you know how that goes...

thanks for all the great comments guys!
