New Monsoon

I went to a show at the local State Theater the other night..

New Monsoon was headlining.. it was only three bands:

Laidback
Hot Buttered Rum
New Monsoon



Laidback was fucking incredible. When they first started playing I was like oh another mediocre jam band.. but then they started making all these crazy tempo changes.. the songs were so fucking flowing and smooth.. and then the guitar player busts out with like a 2 minute long FUCKING AWESOME solo that blew me away. That solo could have been in any number of death metal songs, but it had happy hippie jam music behind it.. fucking awesome.

So Laidback kicked ten times more ass than I expected. Then Hot Buttered Rum came on.. you know the type.. bluegrass.. 5 guys.. fiddle, a cello, a mandolin, a guitar, another fiddle. They were pretty fucken cool also. They did an amazing cover of a dead song, though I forget which one at this point.

So New Monsoon came on after that and the place came alive like nothing else. The floor was packed.. the people were dancing.. everyone had a good time. This is only the second time I've seen New Monsoon, but I like them a lot more now.. I was right up in the front row.. so I saw their whole set from about 3 feet away. If I didn't care for their music much before.. I love it now. So dynamic.. so much energy.

I've seen New Monsoon twice.
I thought the guy playing the tablas was kick ass.

yeah I was right up next to that guy.. he came out and played tablas for Hot Buttered Rum too during the dead song...

No Hella.. I was naturally tripping that night.. I ate a sheet of metaphorical acid :wink:
