Laidback cultures

A few years ago a visited Europe and the U.K. I went to London,  Paris and Amsterdam and I really miss what felt like a more laidback culture compared to the u.s. I live in south Florida, which is a sprawling rat race full of pretentious douches.

I'm probably only seeing the greener grass and all but Europe seemed like a chiller place. Less work oriented and more pleasure oriented. Of course people bust their ass over there but from what I saw and heard from locals is that they value different aspects of life.

Any Europeans have anything to say about this. Am I merely a tourist seeing what I want to see or do you guys notice something unnecessarily speedy about Americans? ( We do make good meth after all)

that's what i imagined it would be like. never been out of the us, let alone a state or two, but i've seen many pictures and shit and that's exactly the kind of vibe i get. america is pretty wild, but we were wild from the get go, how do you think this country came to be?, surely not from being a conformist.

Yeah, here in europe people work when they want to, girls don't bother shaving their pits and everything is cool and arty but with a hint of stale cigarette smoke.

Seriously though, I visited france and the opening hours were hilarious. Can't blame them, if they can keep everything going that way all the power to them.
Up here in the north we have Lutheran Work Ethic, so everyone works 8.30-16.30. On the other hand we have liberal ten minute long coffee breaks every fifteen minutes or so. And unlike the US we had a labour movement, so people who do have jobs tend to have reasonably long paid vacations. Everyone likes to work, but they also enjoy being able to kick back and talk about how nice it is to not have to go to work.

Careerism is as stinky and pervasive over here as it is over on your side I think.

You didn't capitalize "U.S.", and everyone knows Mexico makes the best ice. Not this hillbilly one pot shaker garbage. Woof.

also as a visitor you were in the "honeymoon" phase. Give anywhere enough time and it will become a shithole.

If the US set up the Nordic model or something similar it might not suck as bad here. I like the geological aspects but culturally and politically I feel we fucked up somwhere in the past...

Maybe as we become even more multicultural it might get better.

And I guess you're right on Mexican meth, we can't even do that right anymore :frown:
