Hi everyone! I have some fully colonized pan trops I am trying to get to pin. I cased cow dung/vermiculite with EZ Peat (coco fiber) and the mycelum raced through it fully colonizing the casing in two days! It looked like some overlay had developed so I deep scratched the casing layer, misted it down, and then cold shocked it for a night in my garage (about 35-40 F) That was 2 days ago and again the mycelum has almost completely colonized the surface with no signs of pinning. I have a bubbler in the 10 gal tank with two pumps going to it circulating alot of air. What else can I do to try and get some piinning action?
You got pretty far there! I don't want to let you down...
I assume you didn't take exact measures that are essential for the phase of growth your fungi has arrived at.
For the initiation of pinning the following factors create change in environment which makes the fungi start to pin:
-Decrease in temperature, keep at 75degrees.
-Chamber humidity at about 85%.
-Source of light, provided by daylight that reaches your room-no direct exposure or artificial light(no specific for Pan. species)
I had a hard time myself and gained knowledge and the 'fine feel' through much experimenting...
You need to have a hygrometer which you can get at a cigar joint. Make sure calibration is right wrap in damp cloth and it will read ~95%.
See if your aquarium bubbler provides enough humidity. In fruiting stage around 85%. Add plastic wool for pan scrubbin from Grocery store into the jar with the bubbler. Inform yourself on reccommended humidity sources...
Other than that you simply have to vigorously give the organism its light cycle and check on the gauges to check its environment.
Wherever water is used add gulps of HydrogenPeroxide solution, it will eliminate enemy spores that you expose it to when working.
Also, i experienced that mysting will partly create overlay.
Good luck, I hope you can still save the suckers.
