1 Pint Jars...Revisited

Sorry the pic sucks. The strain is B+. These ladies are over a month old, and this is all the growth that's occurred. Anyone know if this is normal? I read about CO2 buildup and how to alleviate this by turning the jars over, but I have a Ramsey seal in each. So is that still an option? Anyone? Thanks.

yeah, i've heard that the 1 pint jars can take well over a month to fully colonize. Guess that's why pf tek recommends the 1/2 pint jars instead.

You know what i was thinking in your situation... Maybe you could take the colonized section and case it, and just toss the uncolonized portions.? I dunno. Has anyone tried this before?

Oh, hey, noticed your alum. foil was actually underneath your lid banding. Just curiuos what you did there. Did I misread the pf tek instructions on how to do that? I put my alum. foil over the lid/banding.

At what temp are you growing? Has growth stopped or just slowed?

Freak: Yeah, my next batch is definitely going to be in 1/2 pint jars. I put the foil under the lid, which seems to have worked really well. The seal works great keeping out contaminents. These jars were boiled and still came out nice.

FriarB: I keep them on the top shelf of a closet that remains between 72 and 75 degrees. The growth was never fast (except for a short burst at the onset), and they are still growing slowly.

Having used full pints before try this; raising your temp to about 80, make sure to flip the jars now and then, and look up the tech that Anno is using. I have found for full pints it makes a big difference.
