New Opeth Album

Am I the only one who's heard Opeth's new album, Ghost Reveries?
I know there are a large number of Opeth fans on this board, yet I haven't seen anyone post about their new album.
My quick opinion? Its damn good. Not my favorite album (Deliverance is their best) but it is still light years ahead of any other metal band's work.
I'm really diggin the second song, The Baying of the Hounds, especially when Akerfeld sings the lyrics:
Drown in the deep mire With past desires Beneath the mire Drown desire now with you
Gives me the shivers. I think this is the best his voice has ever sounded.
I'm also impressed with the full-time keyboardist, just adds another brilliant element to their music.
Opeth is the only metal band I can stand these days.

I love Opeth...but I'm ashamed to admit that I have not heard the new album yet. I will soon though....can't wait.

I picked it up at HMV for like 13 bucks a few days after it was officially released.. The only song I really heard before hand was Ghost of Perdition which I still cant get enough of. Baying of the hounds is definitely also one of my favorites. The entire album is brilliant, I love it.
Going to be seeing them play with NEvermore on the 29th... it will be my first Opeth show. Can't fucking wait.

I liked it a whole lot. I didn't care for it too much at first, but after multiple listens I realized it was quite a good album. I'm going to see them November 8th for the second time, I can't wait.

I just watched the video for The Grand Conjuration. Nuts!
Mr. Akerfeldt would be pissed if he seen that link.

It's awesome.
I didn't like it so much at first. Thought meh.. they've done better. Then I listened to it again. And again. It grew on me. I noticed things I missed the first couple times.
I fucking love it.

I've listened to it a few times, it's not bad, but there's something missing if you ask me. it's just lacking in those parts that completely blow my effing mind when I listen, like the end of When or Demon of the Fall or the middle of Bleak. I think the clean vox are a little overdone and the keys can be kinda cheesy. it can't really compete with Still Life, MAYH or Blackwater Park, to my ears anyway. That being said, it's still a pretty good album, I have such high expectations for Opeth that I was kind of let down though.
that's my feelings on it at the moment anyway, but I remember I had orchid for like a year before I finally realized how great they were in the first place .

GR cant be compared to their earlier work, imo. Maybe comparable to Deliverance, but thats it.
and yes, it did take time to digest for me as well.

Agree with the above, awesome album no doubt and any self-repecting Opeth fan would be a fool to not get a hold of it. I fall into the lines DH stated though I have very very high expectations for Opeth (I mean "My arms.." and "Blackwater park" are pretty fucking hard to top) so I wasn't blown away but thats what happens when Opeth has been spoiling you for albums and albums.
