Mycobag question
    #4735373 - 09/30/05 06:24 AM (18 years, 5 months ago)

If I had a fully colonised mycobag is it better to throw the whole thing in one box of compost, or could i put half in one and half in the other and get more mushrooms? Some one told me a long time ago that all you really need is a couple colonised rye berries to colonise a whole terrarium.

The spawn from the mycobag will colonize the compost, so yes, splitting it into 2 trays will probably yield more shrooms.

Of course you could throw it all into 1 big tray of compost and probably get the same results. You are talking about compost/poo and not casing, right?

Yeah not a casing. Thats how i thought it worked i just wanted to be sure. It will just take a little longer to colonise the compost with half a bag of rye right?

I was just making sure that you weren't confusing compost with casing. Yes, you want to case the compost after it's colonized. Yes, it will take longer for it to colonize if you use less spawn.

Yeah i started four years ago and i got one of those homestead ez grow kits and it worked very well. Ever sence then i order mycobags and syringes. Once the mycobags are colonised i mix them up in the compost and don't do anything after that. Is there somthing i could be doing to make it better? Im not really sure what the point of a casing is.

I would tell you, but RK will put a foot in my ass for plugging non-sponsors again. :smirk: Mycofactory is good though.
