Just wondering: how long have you all been using the Internet?

Way long.
I used to dial in to my dad's shell account at the UWO and go on usenet and I remember reading jokes over gopher.

1989.

I used to use General Electric's thang, called GEnie.

Hehe yeah man I remember those days...
I used to use the "FreeNet" dialup service. It was slow, you couldn't browse the WWW (when it came out) but it was FREEE!
I gopher. I don't know how many hours I spent scouring gopher for random facts and information

Oh yeah, I remember GEnie. I don't think I ever used it though.
It must have been like 1992 or so when I first got on the internet, but I know that before that I dialed in to Sierra's online community thingee where you could play online versions of their games.

Yeah it was around 91-92 when I got my first taste of the net, though I didn't become a regular user until early 1994 when I got a beta copy of Windows 95. No more fiddling with Trumpet Winsock

For this discussion, I wouldn't concider fidonet to be the "internet".

But fido was cool. I think I sent fidonet messages before I ever heard the word "email".

The internet...hmmm...I stuck with BBSes for a while just because it was free and I was a poor kid. I did email using Juno dial-up, haha. I think I finally got a steady internet connection about ten years ago. I did BBSing starting in the late 80s and ran a very popular one for a couple of years out of my basement using two 486 beasts and 4 CD Roms. I'm still old school, I am on a 33.6 connection because I live too far off the grid for DSL or anything. Respect! (for ultimate nerdom)
