My uvula swelled up yesterday.

Like, out of nowhere.

I was sitting there, my throat felt a bit sore.

Then it suddenly felt like there was something big caught in my throat, so I did the normal muscle movements you do with your throat to dislodge things... and I could feel the thing moving around.

So I looked in the mirror and my uvula was HUGE. Like a fucking thumb hanging down in the back of my throat... or a shiney slug. I had to look up when I talked, because the damn thing would flap forward onto my tongue, tickling my gag reflex.

According to Google, it's not an abnormal thing to happen... but it's still freakin' weird.

It's pretty much back to normal now. Just a little bit sore... but what the hell?

This has happened to me like 3 times. Every time, I drank red wine the night before. Usually in large quantities. I found other people's writings on the internet attesting to the same thing.  Sometimes it's just alcohol in general.


Shitty feeling though, like you're always about to cough something up. Mine was resting on the back of my tongue. :lol:

Nope, and I considered the drinking thing, but I only had 4 beers the night before. It wasn't even swollen when I woke up, it just suddenly went ballistic around 2pm.

it's most commonly from repeated bumping or stimulation to the uvula.
