How to reduce major swelling?
    #6514229 -

Well, I lost a bet, and because of that I owed my friend a free shot to the face. And damn, he clocked my cheek bone hard

Its about 2 hours since, and my cheekbone has swelled up to an honest size of larger than a golfball

Now I want to reduce the swelling because I have a job interview in 2 days, and I want the swelling and bruising to me as minimal as possible. I was told at my old job that putting ice on an injury will cause the swelling to increase, but I swear its common sense that putting ice on it would reduce it. Which is true?

And is there anything else I could do? Such as taking some Ibuprofen(sp)?

And just wondering, what does cause it to swell up more?

Corner men for fighters use a freezing fucking cold metal thing to keep their fighter's eyes open, I would think ice should help it.

Tell the interviewer your boss decked you for forgetting to say "sir" when addressing him and that is why you want to leave your current position.

You let someone punch you in the face 2 days before a job interview? That's pretty dumb... you may want to keep that to yourself should they ask.

Didn't you ever see any old TV shows, where the kid with the black swollen eye puts a cold steak on it? Yes, cold reduces swelling of the face.

EDIT: Oh yeah, if it hurts REALLY bad when the swelling goes down, you probably cracked an orbital bone... One of the MMA fighter types can explain it.

"Icing is most effective in the immediate period following an injury. The effect of icing diminishes significantly after about 48 hours.
so it probably won't help much anymore.
anyways, googling on it only shows that cold helps. you could ask a sport advisor, they have some weird brown stuff you can put on it.

Just because I feel bad for you, I'm not going to tell you how stupid it was to let someone punch you in the face 2 days before a job interview. Maybe you didn't know he was gonna hit you that hard.

Ice and oxycontin.

Lol I never expected the punch to be as intense as it was, considering my friend is more on the skinny weak side

But I realize I'm just going to go to the job interview however I look. I know now that the swelling I have is waaay to much to go away in less than 48 hours

Not to mention the dark bruise slowly developing now

Ice on and off.

Ice on for 15 - 20 minutes (no longer or you can actually cause more tissue damage)

Then leave the ice off for at least 45 minutes.

Repeat as often as you feel like.

But its important to have that 45min no ice break inbetween.

Just make sure you come up with a good story to tell the interviewer to explain the shiner. Maybe you can tell him you wrecked on your stationary exercise bike.
