If one is unable to enter a tranced state for their subconcious to hear things, would a psychadelic trance be useful during such a session? Or is that dangerous?

I wouldn't try it, your emotions respond differently when on psychedelics and could perceive things in a wrong way. Anythings possible though.

A member of my immediate family has a degree in hypnotherapy , and yes it does work . Hypnotherapy in my opinon, works in similar ways as shamanic healing does , not the same though . It does work , one just has to be open to it. It is a usefull tool for people who are not fermilar with inducing the state of mind in themselves , and working with it , what hypnotherapists might not admit, if one can learn to do that , they become unessecery . -Tranceharper

hypnotherapy works if you want it to. The hypnotherapy session can have great impact when the conscious mind is stilled and out of the way. Thoughts = thought forms = beleifs = your reality

MarkostheGnostic ...I had to ask this...

Do you teach your clients self-hypnosis after so many visits? Iv'e heard many of times hynotists continuing to profit on something that the people themselves can do.

Iv'e studied hypnosis for about 5 years now, and I can say it works...

and if you don't believe in hypnosis, then your denying a natural consciousness...Hypnosis is related the same as dreaming...Hypnosis is a dream like state that you become aware of through skill and training, and once you can potray your inner images and use them to your advantage then you trully can control your sub-conscious...

Hypnosis has even been shown to help fight disease and illness. By allowing your sub-conscious mind to become more aware of your problem and by allowing it too focus on the ailment, even when you don't realize your body is...

and the first rule of hypnosis is that....Someone can not hypnotize you if you understand how the inner mind works and how hypnosis works. Hypnotists just allow you to do what you can do by yourself. Kind of like a trainer getting someone to exercise...

the beggining stages of hypnosis is all about the scenarios. It's all about easing and relaxing your mind to allow yourself to fade into the half-conscious state. As you progress with your skill you eventually can put yourself in a hypnotic state on call, and once this is achieved you have to the ability to control all that is oneself...

markos, do you think hypnosis would work to help me become lucid during my dreams? i need to be able to ask myself if i'm dreaming (while dreaming) and be able to perform a reality check to figure out that indeed i am.

ps: is natboard.com your website? didn't see much info there. do you know of a website that would help me locate qualified hypnosis practitioners in my area (san diego)? i googled around, but haven't been impressed with the few hits i got. thanks.

buy some books man...

that's the best way to learn for yourself...Hypnosis is about learning the steps to accomplish it...It's not like some insane amount of learning...It's more like training the same as you would train to build muscle...But hey I guess some people like to think that whoever they go see is putting them into the hypnotic state...:P they just are assisting you

The average number of visits from any client I see is two. I have utilized hypnosis with long-term clients, but that was entirely their choice. I frequently ask my clients if they are ready to leave therapy when it extends beyond 2-3 visits because I no longer advertise 'psychotherapy.' Traditional psychotherapy takes time, I do not work with managed care (because they haven't accepted my particular discipline into their referral lists), and few people are going to shell out $100 per session (this is $50-$100 below the average fee) for months and months. Most people leave after 2 sessions because that is all it takes to remove the troubling symptoms that they came to me for. If someone has time, money and inclination to learn self-hypnosis, I can teach them in 15 minutes or so. However, even though we can all sit and massage our stiff necks (or other parts ) isn't is a deeper, more fulfilling experience when someone else does it for us?

It's a good question. I don't know, but I've always been open to experimentation with new applications of hypnosis.

I don't know California, but these are the two pages from www.natboard.com that are on the site (surprisingly few). I can only really speak to this organization because it includes clinical counselors in its ranks (which I am) while other boards contain only physicians and/or clinical psychologists whose philosophies are different from counselors (medical model vs. educational model). If you can find someone close to your area, and they are not interested in such experimentation (although most people would be glad to take your fee), perhaps someone knows someone who would be interested. Also, see if you can find Leslie M. LeCron's book Self-Hypnotism (even in Amazon's or B&N's out-of-print books) and practice on yourself. Look up the Chevreul Pendulum.

markos, thanks very much for your suggestions, i'll start with the book (as manicdelirium suggested as well) and see if i can find anyone in town willing to experiment further after that.
