No. Catering to others baseless emotional needs of others on an Internet forum dedicated to personal growth is contrary to the goals of pointed discussion. I will use the words that most accurately convey my thoughts so I can be clearly understood. If this includes descriptive language which someone feels is "insulting" I can only sympathize with the trouble they must have in dealing with everyday life but will make no attempt to alter my method and play with "kid-gloves".

As previously mentioned, there is a distinct difference between calling someone retarded and calling their statement retarded. It seems this idea is being muddled and then redirected to suggest the original poster was actually insulting someone. This is laughable at best.

If you can agree that a more "tactful" use of sissy is appropriate and still conveys the same meaning as sissy then what, exactly, makes it more appropriate? It's simply a synonym for the thin-skinned, unnecessary at best for any serious discussion.

Being thin-skinned means that one is still clinging to traditional ego-based notions of self, and an indication that more personal growth is needed. Embracing change with humor and grace are the hallmarks of a mature spiritual disposition.

I fully support a spirituality & faith/science & philosophy split. splitting doesn't mean that one can't participate in both. the S&Fer's can cuddle each other as much as they like and the Sc&Per's can rip each other to threads (hehe) as much as they like.

So, if I had a spiritual belief, but wanted to hold it up to scrutiny, which forum would I post in?

The philosophy forum.  The only difference between S and P is P gets  discussion, and S gets  :fairy: :handth: :imslow:

The poll so far has it - 7 in favor of a split and 5 in favor of a disclaimer.

I am in favor for the Philosophy forum and Spirituality forum as well.
Daimyo, I suggest you should take this matter to the WAF forum, brief the admins on this subject, with the stats from your poll at hand and perhaps conduct a final and official poll in the WAF thread.

At the very least, I think we should try this out for 90 days, and see how it works.

That is true, but that doesn't mean spirituality has to be always discussed in philosophical terms, which is what's happening with the current format.

Scrutinizing ideas is promoted, but has nothing to do with scrutinizing beliefs.

Beliefs are based on ideas. If someone here posts their belief that the Earth is flat, then I'll pick at the ideas from which the belief springs forth.

I'll ask them why they think the Earth is flat. If they say "because it looks flat", then I'll jump on that idea and demonstrate it to be wrong.

As long as the S and the P are together here, this kind of discourse will occur. I've suggested before splitting this place into separate forums, the S where the fluffy people can all hug each other and talk about UFOs, and the P where ideas that don't makes sense will be shown to not make sense.

Splitting the forum, and the the Sissy Disclaimer idea both solve the problem. Why the reluctance?

I'm in favor of splitting this forum for a long time.
Regarding your statement, i must add that a Spiritual forum deals with transcendental beliefs. They have nothing to do with someone believing in "the flatness of the world", such flatness can be proved by everyday evidence or science verification which is where your example resides.

There seems to be a big confusion about what "Spirituality" is. Of course the word can deal with a lot of subjectivity in it, but if you want to be objective about the meaning of such word, you must seek for broad definitions, not personal definitions.

Wikipedia example.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirituality
Quote:
Spirituality is, in a narrow sense, a concern with matters of the spirit, however that may be defined; but it is also a wide term with many available readings: it may include belief in supernatural powers, as in religion; but the emphasis is on personal experience. It may be a metaphorical expression for the life perceived as higher, more complex or more integrated with worldview, as compared with the simply sensational.

As you see, it has nothing to do about proving beliefs. This is an objective definition and i think we must stick to what's most objective.

I agree, but many of the so-called "spiritual" people in this forum seem to think differently. To many, it seems, spirituality has to do with UFOs or psychic abilities or Darwin being wrong, or something along those lines.

Seems to me that if you believe in ET's, creation, and psychic abilities, they would be science & technology, not spirituality.

I mean, if they insist that there is proof, that these claims are verifiable, why would these topics fall into the realms of faith?

To noone special,
Personally I enjoy this experiment of S&P very much. It is nowhere represented since the old days, where both belonged together.
It is a challenge to bring those two nearer together, but with all we know so far, it is such a beautiful challenge.
I would be sad if I missed it.

Timid is a good choice for a disclaimer, me thinks.

And why should we change anything, only because some personas can't read the rules ?
