If there was no free will then you would be like any other force in the universe, and your greatness would come from your experiences and characteristics, not from your choices. But you can easily see why, assuming there's no free will, Darwinism would've developed the illusion of free will in such complex beings, as the lack of this illusion may detrimently affect our expansion.

Even though we may not have true free will we are under the illusion that we do control out destiny and we do in fact make choices...but these choices all have reasons and causes for being made and it seems that there really isn't a choice to be made just a formula to be followed. Don't know what any of that has to do with being happy or sad though....as those are just a part of the formula as well.

Yes
No

If freewill didn't exist then religious texts wouldn't be the same.

The bible would say... "I win"

Why wouldn't they be the same? And why would the bible say "I win"?

I think it's very strange that people are fearful of the fact that (well maybe not fact) there is no freedom of the will....but just physics.

I think a lot of people here are confused over the alternative to free will. There are basically two: determinism and destiny. What you are describing is the latter. Destiny is where something is written in the stars, so to speak, and will happen no matter what. Determinism says that everything is the result of something else. If the Bible said "I win," then it wouldn't win, because it wouldn't have the appeal it does today, and people would choose some other religion instead. It's all about cause and effect.

Is there any practical knowledge we could gain from this debate? I think so....we could learn better how to alter our environment or I should say let the environment alter us.

Clarification...

If freewill didn't exist... Then religious texts wouldn't be the same as they are now. They'd be written differently.

The bible would say "I Win"

Why would a god create a people so he could tell his creation "I win"
He would lose interest in us for our insincerity. And how arrogant would this god be? It would be like me creating a people then telling them all "I created you, now you owe me everything." How arrogant would that be?

Freewill adds so much to this world, this reality.
