How can I power this fan?

I don't how safe it is, but this is my setup.

I took a couple molex power connectors (http://www.computerhope.com/pictures/power/molex.jpg) from a PC rig and I wired one to a fan, and the other to a 12V adapter. When I need to power the fan, I simply connect it to the adapter and plug it in. The cool thing about using the molex conectors is that you can then use the adapter to power other things if need be.

Use a 12V bat. I think that that should be adicuate. sry sp. It's a 12V but im not sure on how many amps a 12 volt puts out?? sry LOL well i hope it works, nice fan by the way!!

Go to a thrift store or RadioShack and get a 12v AC power supply.  Cut the end off and wire your fan to the AC adapter, plug in and enjoy.  Be safe and use electical tape or butt connectors.  I said butt connectors  :rofl:

You can use an AC/DC power adapter. 110V AC input / 12V DC output with a current rating of greater than 280ma. Plug the AC/DC adapter (input side) into a 110V AC outlet. Connect the output side (12V DC) to your fan. Make sure you know which is positive & negative on the output of your AC/DC Adapter.

you could use a old cell phone charger if you have one you dont use anymore. it doesnt have to be 12v, i have a fan on a 7v one now, it just runs a little slower. just make sure it outputs DC not AC. pretty safe to mess with considerin most kids have put a 9v battery to their tongue for fun.  :tongue:

forgot, just make sure its 12v or under

most power supplies will have a wiring schematic involed with their design. i cant remember the two different kind of power supplies that are out there. but i succesfuly hooked mine up. there is a post by someone that Anno helped out with their thing it seems he knows his stuff in that regard. anyways the benefits of using power supplies is that you can hook up quite a few fans. i am currently building my grow room and have about 10 or 12 fans to wire and am hoping to get them all on one. GL. and try asking anno about it. he was very helpful.

A simple power cord would be AC, the fan needs DC. When I did this I just cut apart a 12V AC adaptor. You need the transformer in the adaptor to go from AC/DC so the wall wart is a must.

There is 2 types of common power supplys, 1 for a AT style case and one for the ATX style case. The difference means quite a bit. The ATX has to be hooked to a motherboard to be turned on. But the old AT style powersupplys have the button wired into the powersupply. I use a AT one for my drying chamber with a bunch of server fans. Works amazing, push a button and its on and its safer using those plugs then homemade wiring.

I pulled mine out of an old 333mhz computer, did a google for them and they are quite cheap.

you dont have to hook a atx power supply to a mother board for it to turn on, you just have to connect 2 pins. connect the green wire to any one of the black wires. dont worry it wont shock you, at least it hasnt got me. you can wire a toggle switch on there if you like.

2 words - radio shack.
they have ones they remove from old computers there and sell for like 5.00 becasue there pointless.
