Guitars?
    #4672004 - 09/17/05 01:05 AM (11 years, 9 months ago)

How many people here play guitar? I just started getting lessons and a guitar. I'm 18. I had a late start. When did you guys start and how long have you been playing? I need to waste time coming up.

I've been playing since I was 15 so that's about 6 years... Actually I'm finishing writting my first album and I've played semi-professionaly for quite some time...
Now I'm more about looking for my own thing, composing songs and trying to create new sounds... but it's pretty hard to create something new and original, yet commercial enought to live out of it.
Maybe someday... maybe someday.

I've played on and off ever since I was 13 and I am 29, now. I am nothing special, I assure you, but I know all of the chords and can play some fairly decent rythyms. I can't read music, or anything, though.

I started when i was 15. so thats 5 years i've been playing..

the first year is kind of a bitch. its pretty much all about getting your hands strong enough to play bar chords and go through chord progressions in decent time.

When i fist started I wanted to know how guitarists like Jerry and Trey and Clapton do the things they do... and to be able to improvise solos and fills and melodies.

back when i was 15 i would have been fucking amazed at the things I can play now. so just stick with it through that first year, keep taking lessons. the more you play the sooner you'll get good

im a bit obsessed

I wake up every morning, get some coffee and start playing.
even when I have class in an hour and a paper due that I havent even started yet, I still play guitar.

at my current rate, I figure by the time im 30 I'll be a master.
im not quite there yet, but im pretty satisfied with the skill level im at after 5 years.

i bought a guitar last november. i tried to teach myself, but it's too easy to get distracted. someday maybe i'll get some real lessons, because i know i could make this thing bleed my soul if i knew how to play it. i have a lot of respect for those of you that can.

I play the bass.

I did just buy a guitar from a friend. I don't play it nearly as much as my bass...but it's fun to just mess around with.

You name it...and ill play it. I dont care what it is. I mastered dream theatre about 5 years ago, and thats the most difficult Ive yet to find. Ive gotten very bored with "typical" guitar. Sometimes you lose your way...sometimes it takes you awhile to find it.

Jazz is what its all about.

I also play alot of bass. I can play alot of Victor Wooten. Alot of people think les claypool is the man. Creative, yes....very. Difficult, not at all. Victor Wooten...god on the bass guitar. Victor Wooten can play things on a 4 string bass with just his fingers that metallicas guitarist couldnt even dream of.

Learn jazz.

yeah it's the same with me. but im not just about jazz. i like pretty much everything, but i favor rock. and i can play about five other instruments nearly as well. and the thing that gets me down though is that i rarely play any of these instruments including the guitar yet i can still play as well as i do. it's because of my fucking pain as well as lack of motivation and not having a band anymore that keeps me from playing. i mean i have such a great talent for this shit and i was a natural when i started playing the guitar at around age 12 and every other instrument i picked up later on and yet im just wasting away  now with my inability to get out of this house and my fucking pain that keeps me from doing everything. sorry for the ranting. it just fucking gets me down so fucking much just thinking about it :frown: ive given up everything and for years now done nothing and im only fucking 20 years old!!!!  again sorry, i usually dont do this.
