Can someone plz help me with this guitar lesson

Am I the only one who doesn't understand a word of this?

See the metal bars running down the neck? Those are frets.

You probably have dots on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, and two dots on the 12th fret.

So say you're playing on the 3rd fret. If you moved your finger to the 4th fret, that would be a half-step. If you moved it to the 5th fret, that's going up a whole step.

So when they say a major scale is "Whole, whole, half, whole, whole, whole, half"

If you started on the 3rd fret, the sequence would be:

3 5 7 8 10 12 14 15

That's your G-Major scale.

That lesson is not as good for teaching a beginner because it doesn't relate much to their understanding. But the author is completely right in that one must see the fretboard not as a series of notes and frets, but as music. Once you understand this it opens up a whole new level. I actually am having trouble teaching this to my student right now. I need some way to teach him somewhat of the theory behind it without going way over his head. My best advice is try to learn some basic theory, that will work wonders in your understanding of the music and how to not just play notes, but PLAY MUSIC.

Dude, dont even bother with that


Get guitar pro 7.0

and download there tab files on nearly any of the guitar tab sites and it will show you WHERE To put your finger for everynote on the fretboard, it has the tabs up, you can switch between tabs and real notes, and you can slow the track down to whaver speed you need to learn at becasue the tracks are redone in midi.


but yeah you can torrent a version with the RSE (real sound engine) and keygen no prob! Its how i learned how to sweep pick, i've been using it since version 5 and havent really found any software that does anything like the same thing.

but yeah the 6th string is your LOW E the big heavy string and the 1st string is your puney tiny string.

you will figuer it out from there.

I would for seriously hope so!, acutally i think mac has more instrument education tools avalible than PC so you may be able to find something better.

Yeah, your advice is good. But you still NEED to learn theory if you ever want to seriously understand music. IDK what your aspirations are, but if you want to understand the music, I am telling you learn theory. I have been playing guitar for a good 9 years now, and I think I have some grasp of the theory behind it, when I learned theory I started writing such better songs, picked up songs immediately. Because of theory I now have the ability to analyze almost all the music I hear, tell you exactly the chord they are playing , and play it right off the bat. sorry for the rant, but theory in my opinion is crucial. peace, and hope you figure out the lesson man.

That lesson's terrible, ditch it. Most of the stuff on ultimate-guitar is terrible as well, try harmony-central.

And yes, basic theory is crucial. But definitely don't go overboard with it. There's a fine line between tasteful playing and mindless meandering.

IMO, training your ear is much more important than anything you can do on paper, especially in live settings (for obvious reasons).
