Guitar Hero

I hated guitar hero the first time i saw the "guitar" controler at a best buy display.
I thought "how pathetic. The closest thing some fat geek is going to get to being a real guitarist is to play 'iron man' on some 1/4 scale plastic guitar... if you can even call it a 'scale guitar' since it ony has 5 "frets" and no strings"
Then my friend's boyfriend got this UBER expensice badass acoustic guitarfor Christmas last year. We're talking an $850 guitar here, Alvernaz or however it's spelled. My friend's mom is excessively rich and bought him the guitar because he said he wanted to learn it.
Of course, it's a high performance guitar and the strings are higher off the frets than a regular guitar so they ring really well... and he had NEVER picked up a guitar before that fateful Christmas morning. He tried playing it with no avail, so the guitar sat in it's original packagingin a CARDBOARD box in the back of a closet ever since ... aside from random days I would pull it out and play it. Sounds Beautiful. I'm pretty sure if I can figure out a way to get the thing out the door without being noticed can take it and they'd never even notice.
Well, I take it back, he did put an effort into learning this summer, after he bought guitar hero. Soon he realized the strings on the real guitar hurt fingertips and learning chords are a biatch, so instead of dedicating free time to learning guitar, he instead wasted hours playing guitar hero. The same amount of time and effort put into a stupid plastic guitar could have improved his real guitar playing dramatically.
As we all know, guitar hero 2 was just released early this month. He stood in line at walmart and was one of the first to get it when they when on sale at midnight.
Finally, I said 'what the hell, I'll try out this stupid game if you promise to work on real guitar, because, come on, only knowing the video game is pretty fucking lame, ESPECIALLY when you have a $850 guitar.'
So I showed him a few basic chords and little practice things, even let him borrow my electric guitar b/c it's easier to learn on an electric.
Sad thing is my guitar is in the corner of the little formal dining room area that's hardly ever used. So I'm taking it home tonight.
But on to my story.
I gave guitar hero a whirl. the first time I played it my friend, who a total bitch sometimes, wouldn't let me start on beginning, or even take the freakin tutorial. she was like 'you can play the real guitar, this shouldn't be hard' then made me play on the 'hard' level, when her loser BF who's had the game for MONTHS can only play on the 'medium' level. Of course, I fail miserably and they had some type of weird joy that i lost to a video game. seriously, I'm sure her BF shot a load off into his pants.
so that was that, and i hated the game more than ever.
then on thanksgiving i went to my uncle's house, and my cousin was down from college... of course he brought the devil game. But he let my younger cousins play on 'easy' and then I got to really just WATCH the game and see how it works instead of just thrown into it headfirst on "hard" level.
after watching them I was like 'ok, I can play it'
and play it I did.
I was totally converted, it is a fun game. So that weekend I took my happy ass to best buy and bought a PS2 (I avoided getting one for a long time b/c XBox is superior) guitar hero 2 and a memory card. it was $250 in all.
I beat the game on 'medium' level in 2.5 hours. What a waste of money. that's $100/hour. I could have gotten a hooker.
But somehow, I couldn't stop playing. I even got the first edition of guitar hero, which was also beat in one evening. Currently I'm halfway through both on 'expert' level, after beating all songs, even the unlock songs, on medium and hard.
So yeah. an addicting little game it is, but at the end of the day, I can still pick up a real guitar and jam.

I can't believe I read all that.
Anyways, Ive never even heard of Guitar hero until last week when I saw it advertised on the TV. I was like... what the fuck is that? It looks gay.
Then yesterday I overheard some guy talking about it.
Then you bring it up.
So, maybe I should check it out. I dont have any friends with the PS2 so who knows.

An $850 Ibanez is not really that high end. A $3000-$5000 Martin is high end. The strings should be closer to the fretboard on a more expensive guitar for easier play. The high strings is what is making your friend's fingers hurt. Go to a music store and get the bridge filed down, then put some Elixir strings on it. Like playin on butter.
Oh, and that game kicks ass.

ibanez guitars blow.
GH is an awesome game, ive had peopel who've played guitar for 20 years come over to my place and tell me it's easier to play the songs on guitar. Ive wasted hours upon hours on this game, i love it, ive played both the first and the second to death. Im at the point where ive pretty much memorized all the patterns. I can't get enough of it, pulling off a lot of the solos (especially jordan) on expert is a gratifying feeling. Sure it's not the real thing, but it's just as fun.

I feel the same way, but I have seen somebody play that game and I must say that it is VERY entertaining to watch. It's really humorous to get a little buzz going and laugh at the antics.

I love the games. It actually improved my sense of rythm and putting together riffs....it spawned some more creativity in my own guitar playing somehow.
Most songs on those games, played on expert, are way harder than playing them on the guitar.
I really dig how well it all works. Me and my buds always rip it out at the beginning of a drinkin night

I do my best job of playing guitar hero when I'm too drunk to coherently play a real instrument.
I don't know what that implies... but I do know that drunkenly playing guitar hero is extremely fun.

hehe totally hey. We usually start off playing, go do our thing(pubs, friends places, etc) and when I we get back at 3am or something, we turn it on and we all rip it up pretty good.
I nail parts that i usually can't and god is it ever satisfying!

In GH 2 watch the animated characters hand, im pretty sure they have the character play the actual notes on the guitar while you hit them. GH 3 needs to come out tommorow

you know i was watching the characters and i think they do try to get them to look as realistic as possible hitting the right notes, or at least the area of the guiter where it would be. i doubt they programmed the correct hand position for every song than would be a nightmare.
I'll bet it=t all has to do with the notes you're playing... like for the yellow notes the hand is far away to indicate low nights, while the orange notes make the chaters move their hands inwards for higher notes.
i dunno, i really don't watch the characters that much...
