Re: I'm loving Guitar Hero 2 [Re: Spooge]

I don't own a PS2 or I'd have bought it on tuesday.

As it is, I'm relegated to playing the original at my friend's house on weekends.

But hey, I can get drunk and play iron man with the guitar behind my head

Cheers to this!  I just got back from the second annual Tokyo arcade event at the co-op, and besides Guitar Hero 1 on a TV with 2 guitars, we had Guitar Hero 2 set up on a projector on a bed sheet.  It was pretty sweet, the place was hopping for hours.

I've been playing real guitar for 6 years, and guitar hero is often trickier than the song would genuinely be, but in those cases its not a hard song at all.  Jessica, on hard\expert, is a good example; that songs a relative breeze to play for real (not that it isn't oh-so-sweet).  If you think guitar hero is equivalent to real Hangar 18 or Cowboys from Hell, think again.  This also assumes a basic proficiency with a real guitar.

Playing real guitar helps, but isn't a huge advantage beyond finger strength, though guitar hero has been noticeably beneficial to my real playing; my notes are more regular, more rhythmic, and a bit smoother.

There are some great plays on there, favorites definitely being (not necessarily in terms of songs themselves, but playability):
Gemini
Hangar 18
Carry On Wayward Son (good example here; I hate this fucking song but its a really fun play)

Q: Exactly. For that one fraction of a second, you were open to options you'd never considered. That's the exploration that awaits you...not mapping stars and studying nebulae... but charting the unknowable possibilities of existence.

To carry yourself forward and experience myriad things is delusion. That myriad things come forth and experience themselves is awakening. -Dogen Zenji

I find that rage against the machine's Killing in the Name Of is actually pretty boring to play on medium.

I'm still playing all the songs on medium, since I haven't gotten good enough for hard yet (I only play guitar hero when I visit my friend's house)... yet that song seemed too easy.
