Desmanthus Comming indoors?/
    #4637445 -

I planter some Desmanthus Outdoors mid/summer.

I have mabey foot high plants. First frost comes all too soon in my area.

Can I bring these indoors for a window cill?

Will they continue to grow?? Any experience out there??

They grow naturally in northern US, there's no need to bring it inside for the winter unless temps get ridiculously low where you live.

I also started some last spring. The biggest one recently flowered and is now growing a nifty cluster of pea like seedpods

it will die instantly in -40 c

you should take it in if you want it next year. anyways how did you manage to get it a foot tall since mid summer? thats an amazing growth for a desmanthus seedling, my seedlings, also goes for yopo , cebil and mimosa, grows ultra slow the whole first year.

Dunno....

In fact it was really the first year I ever grew anything.

Beans rocked...  Tomatoes Died... Herbs/lettuce went crazy big.

Desmanthus Shot up to a foot great with unbelieveably healthy leaves.

I actually germinated them late May/June in a bookshelf tipped on its back on my roof with a layer of rock, layer of kitchen compost and about a 50/50 mix of No name "Super soil" and peat "exced".

I thought it was. ::shrug::

Can't wait to see if ti suvives indoors

-40 is pretty darned cold Celsius or Fahrenheit (-40c and -40f are pretty much the same)
You may consider mulching them. I have never grown Desmanthus in my garden however I have observed it in its natural habitat as it grows in wild droves at my farm. Coldest temps we receive are in the -10f to -25ish Celsius and they grow wonderfully.
Keep in mind Desmanthus is grown for rootstock. I have dug mature specimens ready for harvest and the roots are substantial and deep. If you intend to harvest this portion of the plant as an enthogens, growing indoors may prove impractical unless you have room for a very large container. Good luck whatever happens.

Get the plant inside, the fact that it lost its leaves is nothing really, that happens with my datura plant every fall if kept out too long.

You have a datura plant... wow.

Do you use it, or just admire??

What species of Datura do you prefer to grow indoors? I have grown Datura every year for the past decade however never attempted to grow indoors. This year my outdoor crop of Datura was stunning. Almost like a grove rather than garden patch. While working in the garden on particularly hot days I would often hang out under the plants for shade and smoke. The Daturas are truly beautiful and eerily magical plants.

First off, I'm not sure what variety my datura plant is, it's basically an outdoor plant which is replanted in fall and placed inside until spring when it is planted back outside. I use it both to admire and use but the problem with datura is eaither you take too much or too little

the loosing of leafs seems to be the result of low light levels for me.

i brought mine indoors and it started loosing all its leafs
but after putting it under a lamp it started to produce leafs and branches again, even as smaller ones outside were still growing.

ofzourse it might be completely normal for it to loose its leafs,
it is a treelike thing after all, so im possibly confusing it by not letting it go dormant?
