If you are making a donation....
    #4619114 - 09/04/05 01:00 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

Please, please , please, do not give it to the Red Cross. The red cross is a disgusting organization designed to leech millions of dollars from America in times of disaster and vulnerability.

On more than a few occasions the entire organization, and not just select embezzlers, have been found guilty of Fraud.

Quote:

At the World Trade Center the American Red Cross went nowhere near Ground Zero. There was no money to be raised at Ground Zero. There were no TV cameras. ARTI crawled below the rubble while the American Red Cross collected 6 billion dollars in extra cash beyond their usual multi billion dollar collection of donations. They still have most of that cash.

We have seen Mayor Art Agnos sue the American Red Cross who collected 57 million dollars to help the victims of the San Francisco Earthquake only to spend $100,000 and try to 'get away' with the rest. Mayor Art Agnos sued them. ARC settled out of court and spent the money on the victims. See the San Francisco Chronicle front page articles below.

Governor Jesse Ventura did the same thing when ARC tried to 'get away with' money raised to help Minnesota flood victims. ARC has done this repeatedly. Remember all the media coverage about the ARC keeping the World Trade Center billions? Well they kept the money.

There are hundreds of different truly charitable non-profit organizations that are involved with hurricane victims. Ones that accept canned goods and non-perishables as well (unlike the ARC) and not just your money.

And if all that doesnt get you to distrust the ARC, just remember that they infected over 10,000 people with HIV due to negligence on their part, and also do not accept blood from homosexuals.

It's this type of shit that makes people not want to donate money at all during times like this. How does one know who to trust??

well, if you want to help out the animals, you can donate to the humane society.

If you want to help people rebuild their lives, donate to habitat for humanity. Houses are sold at no profit with an interest-free mortgage. Houses are sold at no profit with an interest-free mortgage.

If you want to get people food and water, you can donate to the Salvation Army.

As with all of these, you can donate your time, money, or non-perishibles.

I would really like it if someone would make this sticky. It may sound harsh, but I would rather you not donate money than to donate it to the Red Cross.

when i donate I will find a refugee and give him money or groceries
or what ever
personaly.

also your large charties have a high overhead.
i read a while back that sometimes 20 cents on the dollar actually
goes where you want it to go.
the rest greases the wheels of the machine
