Green green grass of home?
    #4608187 - 09/01/05 02:47 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Has anyone had any luck or tried to use lawn grass clippings as spawn?

Yes, it works if it's dried out. It's not as optimal as wheat straw, but does work.....

It performs horribly...dont waste your time unless you are only interested in experimental results.

Right on. I didn't expect it to be the best or else someone would have a tech on it. Just have a big grass pile and thought i might use it like outdoor compost or something. The durability and versatility of the cube never ceases to amaze me!

it wouldn't be called spawn.

it would be either a substrate or a bulk substrate...depending on how you tried to use it.

and lawn grass would make a terrible substrate.

Well I'm still learning about the proper terms i guess. The WBS i use to mix with the grass is the spawn.
But like I said I was curriouse cause I have a big old pile in the yard and wanna put spent cakes and such in it. If it even has a slight chance of growth its worth a shot right.... I mean as long as the casing or cakes are spent it cant hurt right?

not really...

you would be better off spawning them into Wheat Straw or some Horse Poo.

How about if i just throw some Poo in the mix and make more of a real mix/compost rather then just grass, hen the grass would act like a moisture retention system right?
