Probably not bananas - if I remember correctly, bananas are sold before the seeds have developed, and I'm not sure if they would develop fully in the fruit once it's off the plant.

But most other things you could probably germinate. Whether or not you could get them to grow into plants of a decent size is up to you and yor growing conditions....

Ginger is a fun one. Just get a big bit of ginger, put it into some soil, and in a few weeks it'll develop nice shoots. It's actually pretty easy to grow in a window. Avocados are another fairly easy one, the seeds germinate quite well in a glass of water.

Actually, the bananas that we eat in the west, the sweet yellow ones, are completely sterile and unable to reproduce, period. (period., is that redundant?)

For that reason, combined w/ a pretty nasty kind of plant fungus, cavendish bananas, which we eat now, will soon be gone!

Green peppers aren't ripe (if they were they would be red ), and so the seeds won't have developed fully.

One thing people haven't mentioned: many (most?) of the fruit commonly found in stores come from F1 hybrids. For example, I've often heard F2 generation of winter squash have low success rates (the plant develops well, but the fruit is fibrous and bland); AFAIK, nearly all butternuts sold are hybrids. The situation should therefore be evaluated on a case by case basis, depending on whether the species or variety is often grown from hybrid, and whether the hybrid tends to retain its genetic characteristics (usually not, otherwise hybridizations wouldn't have been used in the first place).
