There are many threads around this forum regarding store bought poppy seeds, i suggest you do a search and do some reading, it's rather hard, cumbersome and annoying to condense all that information into this post, as well as time consuming if anyone was to type it out and do some explaining.
I have to say though, there is a great deal of ambivelance as to the quality of store bought seeds. Some say they're good, some say don't bother since they're supposedly low morphine producing variety. But some disagree and say ti's hens n' chicks or tasmanians, and other say it's the low morphine "Thompson" strain. Basically sew them and see as well as do some searches in this forum for past threads.

McCormic doesn't sell seed packets they are a spice company, not interested in distributing seeds for cultivation. So it is logical to radiate or heat kill seeds on their part. Although viability from them is pretty good.

I have tried and they did indeed sprout but due to neglect died off before they were more than a blade of "grass" but they are definitly viable, McCormicks kind.

I had no doubt they'd sprout, better hope it's hens n chicks or tazmanian though.
