Ladies, birth control question
    #4454914 - 07/26/05 09:43 AM (18 years, 8 months ago)

Quick question

It's some kind of BC that's not a pill or a patch or anything. It's inside the vagina. Like some sort of ring? Tell me more about this before I keep not using a condom. Cause I don't want a little freddurgan running around the Shroomery.

So is it really 99%? Some other website said 95-99%. Aren't some methods like 99.9%? Or condoms? Arent they like 99.9%?

The effectiveness rate promoted by the manufacturer is usually based on perfect use. Planned Parenthood might have a more realistic % for you, as well as info on all other methods.

i think you're talking about an implant. never tried it but i use depo provera which requires an injection every 3 months. it's 99.8% effective, more than most methods. i've been on it for two years and i couldn't be happier. one thing it does, is it eliminates a woman's menstral cycle after the first 6 months or so (yes, no period), no egg is released so no baby can be concieved. genius

Look into Depo Provera, if your woman will agree. I believe it's the single most effective form of birth control, save sterilization, and you don't habe to worry about her missing a pill and getting knocked up.

I wish my gf would use it.

just because you're free from pregnancy doesn't mean you're free from stds though.

make sure you and your lady are monogamous, are clear on your relationship status, then go get tested for stds together.

When you search google for depovera, it comes up with huge lists of horrible effects. Make sure you learn a lot about it - most of these people are wishing they never took it.

My girlfriend was on it for about a year, she gained about 30 pounds. She also seemed to be a zombie with no energy at all, now she is off of it and seems alot more happy. Results may vary.

very true.

depo provera can have really bad side effects for some women...and the thing is, it sticks with you for the duration that it's in you (so i've heard from the doctor)

depo is the method I use, and I'm happy with it.  It does have some side effects, but for MOST women, it eventually stops your period all together, which is nice.  And it's the most effective method of birth control, statictic-wise.  Other than abstinence, that is, which is completely out of the question  :smirk:

not many people are cool with having a scary thing inserted inside their uterus though.   I'd rather get a shot every 3 months than know something is inside my organs.  Also, I've heard that those can move, and cause severe internal problems in rare cases.

I am young. I have no kids. For nearly three years I was in love with a vasectomized man. I have no interest in anyone right now. I will NEVER get pregnant.
Birth control just made me sick and fat, and subsequently depressed and eating disordered, but that was years ago.
