at what point in a menstrual cycle is a women most suseptible to pregnancy?
several days before the period begins. The little spermies take about two days to swim to the goal, and it has to be timed just right with the release of the egg.. if the little guys get there before the egg is free from the tube.. fertilization. If the egg reaches the uterus first and begins shedding its lining (period), pregnancy is impossible.
I learned this in nursing school when I was 10. My mom was studying and she took me to a few classes. There is only a very short (2 or 3 days) time frame where the sperm can fertilize the egg, and it is right before the period begins. If a period occurs, congratulations, she's not pregnant.
