question from newb in texas
    #4566582 - 08/22/05 03:38 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

hello everyone, this is my first post, so here is my question. I was driving home from a friends house today, and i spotted two nice sized mushrooms in a ditch. i would normally just not bother picking them, but the road is surrounded by cow fields, its just that the shrooms are not in the actual field, there are cattle egrets everywhere. i haven't picked them yet, i was wondering what everyone thinks. i live in Houston Texas, i haven't looked closely at them yet, but they were the color of cubensis, maybe i should pick them and see if there is any blueing, I'm just asking people's opinion, because i don't want to eat any thing that's gonna kill me.

Yeah, what rod said. Don't give your hopes up either though. Just because you found mushrooms growing around a cow field, doesn't mean they are going to be active. I have seen many Agaricus species growing around cow pastures. Take the picture, pick one, spore print, and post an in-depth description and all will help. Good Luck!

I live in Houston also.. The mushrooms you see in the ditches are them huge Green Gills!
All them Cubes are in the Cow fields,In the tall grass,Under the trees..
You may find some in grass lands but it has been so hot that I doubt that...
90% of all the Cubes you find round here will be growing directly off the pattys them self's...
10% may be growing out of the ground that has the cow poop settled down into it..

Keep looking there are dozens of fields that all produce as long as you watch the rain fall!

Good luck!

I wish psychedelic mushrooms were legal, because I would like to indulge in this amazing fruit of the earth. Unfortunately, I can only learn about this interesting hobby, and cultivate legal mushrooms.

I have had some good luck. I watch the rain and go two to three days after. The best cubes come out after at least a weeks worth. Ya! Its been hot this year and the tropical storms we usually see have been far and few. It looks like a storm in the gulf and if it holds we will get a good couple weeks of hunting!

Go back and search some of my hunting threads I have had some luck!
