need EXPERT TEXAS help in id
    #717322 - 07/02/02 02:00 PM (20 years, 3 months ago)

yestreday while out hunting my fields, i came across a group of mushrooms that were growing out of horse dung. i am not familiar with this certain kind. they were off white with conical caps and the gills were dark grey. i picked them and the stems showed no blueing at all. being without a digital camera i am unable to post what they look like. my question is- has anybody out there possibly came across the same thing or could you direct me in a way that would show pictures of the psycilobin mushrooms that grow in texas, particularly in around houston. if not psycilobin mushrooms then what others also inhabit dung? someone please help.

Unfortunately those you have picked are NOT cubensis. I wish I could ID them for you but I cannot without a pic. I am not too versed in the ways of IDing mushies. I can tell you for sure that they are NOT the one you want. However, keep looking around if you are in the Houston area. Look any direction out of town. It has been raining for a week there and the nights are cool for this time of year. I hear there are plenty to be found right now....Caramel brown caps with blackish purple gills white stems and bruising blue...that'll be yer huckleberry... .

I am not aware of any other psycoactive types in Texas but the cubies run rampant on the Gulf coast....so I'm told
