Ok on the hawks eye it says to use hydrated lime and I've read many posts by anno saying to use limestone .. well AFAOF has gone out to buy hydrated lime to use in this only to find out that it's not right ... sooooooooo what's the deal why does the hawks eye still say to use hydrated lime? And is Dolomite lime the right kind of lime to use because the foaf saw that at a hydroponics shop.

Go to garden stores it will say hydrated lime (used to sweeten the soil) if you look around and can not find it let me know and I will send you some.

if possible use limestone, as anno suggested
you dont want dolomite, too high in magnesium
hydrated will work, careful though its potent stuff
try about a tbl spoon to a gallon of 50/50
you can take it to your local nursery and they will check PH for free
o-shell though listed as a ph adjuster
the fact is unless its ground to powder the usefulness as a ph regulater is limited,
it great for a long term adjuster...were talking years for o-shell to break down
its good in casings, i use it,
it tends to give the fungal roots more to hang on to..
beefs up the casing so to say and it does have some effect on ph
if you try peat based casings with out proper ph you will more than likely lend up with trichoderma
too many people under estimate the importance of proper ph in thier casings

if that works out to a tbl per gallon yeah,
also its realy hard to get that small an amount mixed in with all that peat, i would suggest
to dissolve the lime into a quantity of water then add it to your casing and pasturize or p-cook
good luck sum guy
