 Hydrated lime or Crushed Oyster shell for casing ?

What is the big difference between these 2 additives. They both raise the PH level in soil. Hawks Casing tek recommends using both of these. What is the recommended amount to use for casing? most teks say to use a % by volume. can some one please explain.

hey buddy
try this info, in major production of mushrooms, mainly just peatmoss and lime are used. Moss to add water, and lime to reduce contams. that oyster shells are add so when you pick your shrooms it dosen damage the mycellium as much.
If you able try all three. if you want to keep it simple just use wet steril verm.

15 cups vermiculite
15 cups peat moss
4 1/2 cups crushed oyster shell
2.4 cups of hydrated lime
1 cup short of a gallon of bottled water
Here is a recipe stolen from thehawkseye.com but I am sure ryche won't mind
Please take note that both the oyster shell and hydrated lime are being used.

In the mushroom cultivation Limestone(CaCO3), NOT hydrated lime(CaOH) is used.

Ok so where do I get just plain lime stone from?
Homedepot? Walmart ?
Is Gypsum limestone ?
What is straight LIME ?

To add one cup short of a gallon is soup. Is it me??

No, gypsum is Calcium Sulfate.
