Paturizing 50/50+ question....

i pasturize my mix using ryche hawks tek. it said to put the mix in a pillowcase and boil it for an hour. i did just that, but have a couple of questions:
i put the pillow case with the mix in it directly into the water in a big pot and boiled it. is that right?
and if so, wouldn't boiling it like that boil out some of the nutrients? like when they say not to boil veggies because you loose a lot of the important vitamins and minerals. i ask this because the water i dumped out after i was done was really brown, suggesting to me that the water was full of nutrients
and does the direct contact with the water effect the lime?
one more thing...i use jiffy mix that i bought at walmart. it is 50% verm and 50% peat with lime and a wetting agent. is it cool to use this? i figure it is easier because it is premixed, i don't have to track down lime, and it's only 50 cents a bag, which one bag will do one 18"x9" casing.
just checking what condition my condition is in.

I have the same question. What does he mean by putting the pillow case ON the water. It doesn't just float. You can't put substrate ON water. You can put it IN water, but not ON water. You can put ice ON water, and a balloon ON water, but not 50/50. Do I hang it over top or something. I't won't float. Arrrgggg!!!! Can someone please help, I'm ready to case.
Thank's

We're talking about pasturizing the 50/50 casing. Not sterilizing jar's. Thank's for the help anyway.
