cheap casing question

can I just get a rubber maid containter and throw some perilite down at the bottom and crumble my cakes into it and put casing layer over, and then just put the lid on and mist it and fan it, what about light? how would I do that? This is going as cheap as possible, can I just open the lid and expose it to sunlight instead of buying an exspensive light kit? thanks.

That would probably work, but instead of throwing down some perlite, throw down some damp vermiculite, oh and make sure you dont let the humidity cause constant dripping down the sides of the container

You need to put a layer of verm down in a non-transparent tray or container, crumble your cakes and put them on the verm. You can put plain verm over the cakes, or use the 50/50 tech. Make sure the verm is wet, but not too wet(water should not come out when squeezed). Then put tin foil over it and wait for colonization. Once it is done, you can take the tin foil off and put the colonized tray in a terrairium. Any light will do. They only need a few minutes a day. Go to the hawk's eye and check to 50/50 casing tech.
