I've just recently got back into meditation, and I'm wondering what techniques, and what breathing methods work best for you.

beginning middle end on the out breath
and
beginning middle end on the in breath

following not leading

gentle corrections only
if there is a big breath note "this is a big breath"
continue...
20 mins then repeat after a stretch.

I've been trying your meditation technique for the past couple weeks, redgreenvines. It is quite useful... counting breaths and shikantaza had grown less helpful.

I practice dreaming because I find it more worthwhile. I meditate daily but it is more of a ritual than anything. The methods you use arnt nearly as important that the thinking you do beforehand. The most important thing is to lay out your objectives for meditation. I meditate to block out my conscious and let my brain explore itself. I realized that I used to do this best by laying down, close to sleep and concentrating on seeing something. I usually looked at the carpet I was lying on. It works great for 'turning off' the brain. If your objective is different let me know and I will tell you how I would approach it.

it is simple, and like a gordian knot its results are well connected to actions.
the technique is translated from a burmese one, and as I do not speak burmese, I don't know the original sounds of it, but I do hear my own original mind from it.

meditation is not exactly supposed to be soothing; when it works it is quite a feather ruffler, the meditator sits through the phenomena of his own angst ridden "inner" cosmology.

"keeping still" this way is more like deconditioning, but, while you might call it a kind of learning, you don't actually add anything to your arsenal.

the after effects of meditation are less emotional baggage falling off your motorcycle when you don't even need to be carrying it there in the first place.

I found Alan Watts lecture on meditation very helpful. That's where I learnt how to meditate and that's how I do it - "Alan Watts style", so to say

ive been focusing on mainly trying to astral project, i usually sit on my bed and try to see whatever it is thats 'behind' my vision, its hard to explain. I also try to let my brain wander like its dreaming, or a pre-dream hallucination type thing. I eventually get to the stage where i fell disoriented and almost as if i am being moved around and spun and pulled, but i am not.

i think you just have to find what works best for what you are trying to accomplish, good luck

I was really interested in Astral Projection a while back, but just lost interest in trying. for the last couple of weeks I've had some interesting experiences that remind me of what I used to be aiming for. One nap for instance, I feel a rapid full-body vibration like I've heard happens at the onset of AP. It lasted at least a minute and I was very conscious of it as I was "awake", but with my eyes closed. I even said to myself "Wow, this is what is supposed to happen" and thought that doing so would make it stop as that was what I had heard, but it didn't stop then. Just kept going for a while and stopped by itself. Then, just last night I was laying in bed doing a simple meditation practice and suddenly it felt (REALLY felt) as if I was laying down but being spun in circles and in all different directions. After it stopped (lasted a minute or so), I opened my eyes and looked around and was in the same position as before, but not in the position that I somehow expected to be. It was VERY cool.

yes, im not a chronic smoker tho, only weekly/monthly or whenever someone invites me over

i think that is far from the truth, i one time smoked some wondeful bud that my uncle had and i had an extremely intense high. I also noticed that i started twitching. Now, your gona say 'wtf does that matter' well, when i try to astral project, during my meditationness i begin to twitch. This has been explained to me as the astral body actually trying to break free from the physical body. I have read an article where a girl got extremely blazed and actually sorta fell asleep, but she said she woke up and could look around the room and move and she saw her body laying there asleep, still breathing, but she was no longer in it. I believe that pot can actually aid in astral projection.. now when i smoked the bud i am referring too, sadly i was too young and uninformed to try to astral project, so i was not able to test this theory, but i should be able to get some relatively soon and try.

anyway, boring story = over

and i get this feeling as well as a general rule when i do my meditation practice, the main feeling is... its easier to show one with my hands what i feels like, but almost as if i am being pulled out of 2 places, my chest/heart area and my forehead (the third eye from my speculation) and i must say it is an incredibly fascinating and invigorating feeling.

as of this instant, i am waiting for a couple books i ordered of amazon that talk about astral projection and oobe's and how to atain them and control and an explanation of what is actually physically happening to you during these events.

keep it up yall

William Buhlman has a couple of good books that really go into theories of the outer(inner?) dimensions and practices to get there. I was telling my Twelve year old some of the theories and she decided that she wanted to become an astrophysicist.(Lasted about a week!)

no one gets anywhere dreaming?

creating art?

meditating?

exploring a forest?

(whether or not they are CONSENSUALLY valid does not change the fact they are great inner self expressions and explorations from what I've heard... plus they sound like fun...)

(don't you like fun?)

maybe it is not about getting
or getting somewhere
but about seeing where you are at
seeing what is

maybe it is not like material advancement
acquisition.
or even spiritual advancement whatever
people consider that to be.

glancing at the one you have always longed for
happy to see you again type of thing
