A couple of newbie questions

A stranger asked me a question regarding a hypothetical situation:
Suppose 2 out of 6 PF-style jars had spots of condensation on the inside of the jars, can it harm the mycelium or start contam in the uncolonized substrate?
Grow version 3.2 says this can cause yellowing of the mycellium. How would one distinguish this from contam?
Further suppose a very slowly colonizing jar showed signs of rust around the innoculation holes in the lid. Can this harm mycelium, and is 1/2" of dry vermiculite enough to protect it?

Yellow spotting is caused by water pooling. You can easily distinguish it from contam. It is not fuzzy,but rather smooth and gives the cake a thin rubber skin-like appearance.It is harmless. Rust is not that big a deal either.
