Rye Casings, Worm Dung, Please please help.
    #447014 - 11/04/01 07:19 PM (22 years, 10 months ago)

Ok, I had about 6 colonized quarts of Rye, and I cased them with Jiffy Mix. I squeezed most of the water out of the mix before applying it to the substrate. Several of the casings have about a 3 inch layer of substrate and others haev about a 1 inch layer. All of em have about 3/4 inch layer of Jiffy on top. They are lookin good, I am just wondering, should I be misting the casing surfaces of these look dry? Also, after they flush, do I mist them again for a second flush? A lot of fanning at this point too?

Also, I took a colonized jar and mixed in rye berries with these worm castings. I cooked the worm castings in a pot and brought it to a boil. I put the mix in a cooler and out of the light. Is it ok i boiled the worm castings or should I have pasteurized? It seemse people get away with going either route.

Anyone have any advice? Thanks
LDD

If they look dry then mist them.
